7:00PM- G. Heyer called the meeting to order.  Introductions were made.

M. Hunziker moved to approve the minutes from the January 17, 2012 meeting, with one addition; R. Wimble 2nd.  All in favor.

Greta Brunswick, Senior Planner from the Northwest Regional Planning Commission (NRPC), gave an overview of NRPC and its part in facilitating the introduction of the “Village Vision” as part of the Town Plan update, due in September 2013.  She explained the project work plan and schedule, and the responsibilities of the Vision Committee in setting goals and priorities.  NRPC will compile information from the Committee, and from scheduled Vision workshops involving the public, to draft a ‘village vision’ addition to the Town Plan.  After this evening, the Vision Committee is separate from the Planning Commission and will have its own meeting schedule.

Greta led the group in an exercise, asking each member to identify Fairfax’s 1) Assets and Strengths; 2) Vision for the Future; and 3) Issues and Challenges.  This led to discussion regarding the “boundaries of the village” (across the river?), projected changes in growth/population, the potential to use the river for more recreation, other recreational opportunities in the village, Fairfax Falls, traffic and roads, and environmental issues.  Greta will compile the lists made by the committee to establish priorities.

Greta asked that there be two more meetings of the Vision Committee before the beginning of April.  Tentative dates are March 13 and 27 at 7PM, location to be determined.

The next meeting of the Planning Commission will be February 21, 2012 at 7PM at the Town Office.

8:20 PM- M. Hunziker moved to adjourn; R. Wimble 2nd.  All in favor.

Respectfully submitted,

Martha Varney, Zoning and Planning Assistant
