7:30 PM G. Heyer called the meeting to order. The December Minutes were reviewed: December 4th, 10th,
11th - Community Forum, and 15th - Community Forum. M. Hunziker made a motion to approve all the Minutes from December. R. Wimble second. All in favor. The Board approved the write-up for the 2007 Annual Report. M. Hunziker mentioned that he was setting up a group to discuss the possibility of creating a Community Center for Fairfax. This is an off-shoot from the small group discussion from the Community Forum. M. Hunziker will also work on obtaining a Village Center Designation for Fairfax.
G. Brunswick from NRPC worked with the Board to start the Town Plan revisions. Three Public Hearings need to be held: Planning Commission (1 hearing), tentatively suggested for July 15, 2008 and Select Board (2 hearings, at least 30 days after the Planning Commission Hearing) tentatively suggested for August 25, 2008 and September 22, 2008. Copies of the Revised Town Plan need to be mailed to various Towns and Officials at least 30 days before the first Planning Commission Hearing (June 12, 2008). The public notices should be sent at that same time.
Discussion centered on changes to the Land Use Section; Implementation Section; Zoning Districts; the open space study; and defining the growth center of Fairfax. It is important to simplify the goals, policies and objectives stated in each chapter of the Town Plan. The focus will be on four tasks for the update process:
1) Update the data 2) Read and make corrections in each section 3) Re-think and re-write all goals, policies and objectives 4) Obtain new photos and maps. G. Brunswick will attend the meeting on February 19, 2008, after working on updating the data. Each Board member will read each section and make suggestions for changes.
The next meeting will be on January 15, 2008.
