Florence Julia Fiske

Bakersfield - Mrs. Florence Julia (Cross) Fiske, age 80 passed away on July 7, 2010, at 2:40 A.M. seven days short of her 81st birthday, at her home following an extended illness, with her loving family by her side.  She was born to the late Burt L. and Lena M. (McGowan) Cross in Fairfax, on July 14, 1929.  Florence married the late Homer Fiske, February 3, 1949.  They were married for 56 years.  Homer died, January 9, 2005.

Florence was a homemaker for many years.  She loved to cook, for her family. She also enjoyed needle point.  Florence loved fishing in the creek in Fairfield when the family was younger.  She also loved her animals, going to summer auctions with their friends.

Her devoted daughter, Teresa has been her care giver for many years.  We thank you.  She has a special aunt in her life, Aunt Lizzy King.

Florence is survived by her four children and their spouses, Pauline J. Bushey and her husband Leon of Fairfield, Reginald H. Fiske and his wife Ruth of Swanton, Carolyn M. and Harvey Bushey of Franklin, and Teresa A. Smith and her husband Brian of Bakersfield, a special daughter-in-law Sandra (Morris) Fiske of Sheldon.  She has a number of grandchildren, Lori Britch, Chuck Bushey, Cheryl Lanlois, Shawn Bushey, Chad Smith, Leanne Fiske, Samantha and Adam Fiske.  Florence also leaves special great-grandchildren, Aaron and Ben Britch, Gage Langlois, Alexis Smith and Haylee Fiske, all of whom will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband Homer, two daughters Nancy Fiske, Kragel and Sandra Fiske, a son Michael Fiske, a brother Burt Cross, Jr., and a grandson Kevin Fortin.

We wish to thank the Enosburg team from the Home Health Agency for all that they have done for our family.  It would not have been possible to keep her home without you.  A special thank you goes out to Janel, Kimberly, Terry, Emma and Amanda for their compassion and dedication throughout Mom’s ordeal.  We think of you as friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 10, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in East Fairfield.  Interment will follow in the Fiske family lot in Bradley Cemetery in Fairfield.  Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, from 6 to 9 P.M. Friday.  Memorials may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. An online condolence book has been established for the family at the funeral home website: www.bnlfh.com.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

I graduated from the little brick school at the end of the Buck Hollow Road where it intersects with the South Road with Florence's husband, Homer (Punk) Fiske.  At that time her parents lived just down the road, between there and The Howrigan Road with her younger brother, Burt Cross, Jr.

Her husband, Punk, lived on the farm on the corner of The Howrigan Road & The South Road.
