PRESS RELEASE
INCIDENT: Case#: 10A101283
Trooper: Senior Trooper Ravelin  Station: Williston Contact# (802)878-7111

Date/Time: 1530/ 3/26/2010

Location: Westford
Incident: Grand Larceny

Summary of Incident:
On March 26, 2010 at approximately 1530 hours the Vermont State Police from the Williston Barracks responded to a family disturbance in Westford.  During the investigation Troopers located forty five stolen road signs and speed limit signs.  The signs were attached to the wall of a juvenile male.  The juvenile stated he had stolen the signs over the course of last summer.  They were stolen from the Towns of Essex, Westford, Georgia and Fairfax.  The approximate value of the stolen signs was between thirty five and one hundred fifty dollar depending on the size of the sign.  The total approximate value was between and $1615.00 and $3450.00.  Several of the signs were broken off from their posts and were not able to be reused.

The boy who is not old enough to drive asked the police to take some photos as a momento in the following story:

"He didn't think that it was a big deal. He was actually asking ... (to take) photographs as we were taking them down as a keepsake," Vermont State Police Trooper Paul Ravelin said.

All the keepsakes add up to about $2,000 worth of taxpayer dollars.

They had a photo of the signs on a table last night on the news and I did see one of the signs was from Fairfax.  It was a Buck Hollow Road sign.  That would be a Town Road Sign.  I am not sure, but I believe I heard at one time that replacement of the Private Road Signs is the responsibility of the home owners on that road and not the town.  I am sure someone who reads the forum would know the answer to that for sure.

And I would like to know if the town will be pressing charges... Obviously this cost the town something
