For the past two weeks we have been under a high pressure system.
We have hit temps in the 80's, here in Anchorage.

The high pressure extends through the whole state from the Kenai Peninsula to almost Barrow.

There are about 60 wild fires burning between Fairbanks and Kenai.

The bad thing is that the high pressure circulates the high altitude air and for the past 3 days we have been covered with smoke from those fires.
I actually had ash on my car from fires that maybe 200 miles away.

As for the bears, we had one black bear so far in our yard, but he moved on and I had NO camera handy, unlike last year.

If I could SEE the mountains through the smoke, I would send you all a picture.

UPSHUT is,,,,, it is HOT as HECK! GOD BLESS AL GORE AND GLOBAL WARMING!

Alaska must be trip. I always wanted to go there, it seems sooooo remote, desulate and private. Why did you move up there anyway? My husband who is in the military was offered a job up there, working on radars or something and would have moved up, but I didn't want to leave family here in vermont.

I "moved" here because my parents brought me here.

I was like 3 or 4 years old.

My Mom says she was always intrigued with the John Wayne movie, "North to Alaska" and so I am here.
When she figures out how to post on Henry"s forums.... I will be whipped back into shape!

I have been here since 1972, I think, and I left for 5 years while I was in the Navy.
I didn't like what I saw, so I came back.

So there is the Reader's Digest version.

My Mom, who reads this forum but won't post, ( I am gonna hear it about that statement) has informed me that I arrived in Anchorage in 1970.

SO I was close, I said around 3 years old.

I guess I am a Pioneer.

Over 40 years as an Alaskan.

I did leave for 4 what I thought would be a 4 year hitch in the Navy.
They sent me to a boat in Guam after boot camp.
I saw a few interesting places while there.

When I made E-4 I was given a few choices to go to for my next duty.
Adak, Alaska was one. I chose it. (Google it)

I had to extend my hitch by 6 months but it was worth it.

The South Pacific and Asia was NO place for this Eskimo!
Roasting pig on a beach on Christmas Day got old.

Mike's mother was Bev Luman, his grandparents were Bob & Bernice Luman who lived on Maple Street and his great grandmother was Olive LeMay who also lived on Maple Street.  Mike used to visit his grandparents here in the summers and was actually here I believe during the Tornado in 1973 - OK Mike, I know you don't usually come on until night, but you can correct any mistakes I have.

Below is the house where Olive LeMay used to live - It has been torn down and just above the area where it was is the Graves Trailer on Maple Street:

You got it all correct Henry.
Thanks.

I was there in 73 when the tornado passed through.
We had a frozen pizza in the oven when the power went out.

I also entered the World at Kerbs in St. Albans. I think it is gone now or bought by someone....
