STOWE - Joseph Lazzaro, 84, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side Thursday, July 26,2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe. Interment will follow in the Riverbank Cemetery.

Joseph Lazzaro, 84 of Stowe, Vermont died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born in New York city on February 12, 1934 where he spent many of his earlier years pursuing his education, career and family life. In 1966, he moved and resided in Vermont with his wife and three children.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Claire in 2017. They were happily married for sixty-one years. He leaves behind his three children; Maria Kowalchyk-DeVito Ed.D. and husband, Giancarlo of Stowe, Vermont, Joseph Lazzaro and wife Sheila Sartori of Venice, Florida and Lawrence Lazzaro and wife Alydia of Milton, Vermont and blessed by his three grandchildren; Angela Lazzaro, Laura Lazzaro and Daysi Anna DeVito.

Joseph served both the United States Navy and Armed Forces Reserve for over a period of eight years. Joseph was an extremely intelligent person and had a successful 25 year career at IBM in Burlington, VT. As an electrical engineer and upper level manager, Joseph created visionary concepts and patents that set the path in the early development of micro-electronics. He traveled extensively in his work over the years.

Joseph was athletic and physically strong man. He loved the sea where he was a deep-sea fisherman and a lifeguard at Jones beach. During his free time, he sailed throughout Montauk Point, New York on his cabin cruiser. Joseph enjoyed playing sports and competed in the golden glove boxing arena. He later became an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis. He involved himself in many community services within his home towns including; coaching little league baseball, serving on community boards and a Catholic CCD teacher for middle school.

Joseph lived in six residences over his life with his wife and designed four of the homes. The residences were in College Point, N.Y., Westford, VT., Fairfax, VT., Stowe, VT., Boca Grande, FL. and Placida, FL. He loved his retirement years living between his summer home in Stowe, Vermont and his winter home on the island of Boca Grande, Florida.

Joseph devoted his time to the Roman Catholic Church were attending daily masses, rosary sessions, Catholic formation classes and donating to many Catholic missions. He especially contributed to the Covenant House in New York over many years. In addition, over an eight year period, he assisted with the food preparation for the St. Luke's Annual Turkey Dinner. Joseph was always eager to serve those in need. He coordinated Parish Rosary prayer hours to support Our Lady of Fatima Rosary and was dedicated in his prayers with the rosary to the Blessed Mother.   Recently, Joseph studied for almost one year to become a member of the Secular Franciscans Vermont chapter for Secular Franciscans. His thirst for Catholic formation was evident in his reading from the Liturgy of Hours, the Bible as well as other Catholic readings within his reach. He had a great love for St. Francis.

Joseph was loved by many people and his enthusiasm for life and his Catholic faith was apparent through his great conversations to all who were privilege to know him.

A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, VT. at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Riverbank Cemetery. A reception will follow at Trattoria La Festa in Stowe.
