Guy Joseph Jarvis

Colchester - Guy Joseph Jarvis passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on a beautiful Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 at VNA Respite House in Colchester.

He was born in Burlington on April 17, 1929, the son of Anne (Mangini) and Joseph Jarvis. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1948 and married the former Betty (Yungkind) in November 1949. They celebrated their 68th year together last November.

Guy was one of the first 500 employees hired at IBM in 1957 and had a successful career as a Production Control manager. He was instrumental in organizing the New England Federal Credit Union at IBM. He was a Mr. Fix-it extraordinaire and almost single-handedly built a camp on beautiful Lake Champlain which his children and grandchildren have enjoyed for over 50 years. He loved watching the generations of the family evolve over the years and welcomed them all every summer.

He was a longtime advocate and stockholder of the Champlain Valley Fair. He enjoyed the company and friendship of his buddies at the Ethan Allen Mobil Station and his endearing love of his second family, the Lewis clan. Guy was a lifelong member of St Mark's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Susan (Jim) Larche of Swanton; his sons Tom of Boston, Tim of Burlington and Matt and his partner Shelley of St. Albans; his grandchildren, Sarah (David) and Gracie Haupt of Chicago, Katie (Bob) and Ben Laba of Saranac Lake, NY, Tyler of Boston and Lauren of Burlington; also his brother Michael (Janet) Jarvis of Barre; his former daughter-in-law, Roz Jarvis of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Guy was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anne Jarvis; his son Robert; his sister, Gloria Bolser and brother Roy Jarvis.

The family would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank the VNA Respite House, Sr. Marie Feely, Carkie and Dave Bickford, Dr. Candace Frasier and Dr. Janet Kirwan.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tues. May 8 at the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Ave., Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wed., May 9 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church with interment to follow in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Guy's memory to the VNA Respite House or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
