TROOPER IDENTIFIED

It is with a heavy heart that the Vermont State Police announce the untimely passing of Trooper Kyle Young (28) of Monkton Vermont, originally from Watertown, NY.  Trooper Young is survived by his children, a loving partner, and parents and family in Watertown, NY.

Yesterday at approximately 2pm, Trooper Young suffered a medical event that caused him to collapse during training at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho.  Trooper Young was subsequently rushed to the UVM Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 3pm.  Upon learning of the incident, Vermont State Police Director Colonel Matthew Birmingham and Department of Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn immediately rushed to the hospital.  Upon learning of Trooper Young’s passing, they began the process of notifications to family, and to fellow Vermont State Police troopers across the state.

In speaking about the tragedy, Colonel Birmingham promised his support for all.  “The Vermont State Police express their deepest sympathies to the family of Kyle, his children, his partner, and the troopers who served closely with him.  Now and in the coming days, I will focus solely on supporting Kyle’s family, and our Vermont State Police family, as we struggle to come to grips with this tragic loss of a father, son, and brother trooper.”

Trooper Young began his career with the Vermont State Police on January 13th, 2014.  He is assigned to the New Haven barracks in Middlebury.  Many of his fellow troopers from New Haven and around the state made the trip to the hospital yesterday in support of Kyle and his family.

Commissioner Keith Flynn also expressed his condolences.  “A tragedy such as this is difficult to fathom, and I stand with Kyle’s family as they come to grips with his loss.  I also strongly support Kyle’s second family, the Vermont State Police.  In times of tragedy, this organization of professionals pulls together to support each other.  Kyle will forever be a part of that family, one of the best law enforcement organizations in the country.”

Arrangements are under way to return Kyle to his family in Watertown, NY.  His Vermont State Police family stand with Kyle, and his loved ones, as they move forward.  We remember Kyle as a caring and dedicated father and partner, and honorable Vermont State Trooper, who cared greatly for his family and community.
