I am a member of several environmental organizations but haven't been much of an activist. This is changing. I support legislation for a carbon tax for Vermont now being introduced ,and this is a letter I submitted to Free Press editors:

Do you like loons? Do you like Hemlock trees? The Audubon Society says that the Common Loon is one of 314 North American birds threatened by Global Warming. The Wooly Aldegid insect threatens to kill all our Hemlocks because it can survive in warmer winters.

Do you want to pay for damage done by extreme weather events that will become more common due to Global Warming? Super-storm Irene cost us $250 million in damages to state highways. We can’t allow trends like this to continue. See http://www.anr.state.vt.us/anr/climatechange/irenebythenumbers.htmlhttp://www.anr.state.vt.us/anr/climatechange/irenebythenumbers.html

These are only examples, and you can do something about it. A coalition of environmental groups, such as VPIRG, Sierra Club, and 350VT, is promoting a Carbon Pollution Tax in the state of Vermont. A top notch public policy study organization, Regional Economic Models, Inc., shows that such a tax would be effective and benefit Vermonters economically.

kp,

Even if the temperatures skyrocketed off the charts, there would be no shortage of loons in VT.

I saw a bunch today, with Sanders for President stickers on them!

Once the Super Volcano out West under Yellowstone National Park blows up we're heading for an ice age anyway...

Also hilariously ironic, is the fact that, here in VT, the self proclaimed epicenter of renewable energy and environmental awareness and consciousness, the hypocrites protest the wind farms, and the solar panel projects.

And a bunch (supposedly a couple hundred) Vermonters jumped on those big diesel guzzling buses and headed to NYC for a Climate Change demonstration last spring.

A nice welcome by two of the friendliest posters on this site.  Good job Thor and kpplus2.  Did either of you even bother to go to the link and read what Newt's group is trying to do?  As usual any view that is not aligned with yours must be blasted down.

Thanks to those who have responded to the Global Warming post. I hope to get a forum on the Carbon Pollution Tax scheduled for Fairfax. The primary bill is H.412 and can be read on line: legislature.vermont.gov. It is important to note that while fossil fuels will cost more most of the tax receipts will be returned to tax payers.
