ERNEST ELVIN SWEET

FLETCHER — On Dec. 7, 2013, Ernest Elvin Sweet, 84, passed away peacefully in his loving home. Ernest was a lifelong resident of Fletcher.

He was predeceased by is wife, Catherine (Rock) Sweet of 64 years. He leaves behind three children, Robert Sweet and wife, Linda, of Fletcher, Elaine Sweet of Fletcher, and her fiance, Bruce Page of North Port, Fla., and Corrie Sweet and wife, Lisa, of Fairfax. Ernest is also survived by his six grandchildren, Kelly Sweet and wife, Joan, of Fletcher, Shad Minor and wife, Melissa, of Fletcher, Kristy (Minor) Pigeon and Joey, of Fairfax, Karrie Ann Sweet-Werneke and husband, Bill, of Fletcher, Andrew and Abigail Sweet of Fairfax; 10 great-grand¬children, Brittany, Danielle, Jacob and Jarrett Sweet of Fletcher, Jordan of Cambridge, and Loudon Minor of Fletcher, Rachel and Chase Pigeon of Fairfax, and Delaney and Malayna Sweet-Werneke of Fletcher; and one great¬great- grandchild, Briley Trudell of Cambridge. Ernest also leaves behind sister, Barbara (Sweet) Mayotte and husband, David, and their entire family of Fletcher and Underhill; sister-in-law, Angela Rock and family of St. Albans; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ernest was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He was always willing to help those in need. He was a lifelong dairy farmer and spent countless hours leveling the local hills while saddled up on his bulldozer. His home was a welcoming place for all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known as “Gramp“ by most residing in the area, he always projected a quick wit and uncompromising sense of humor.

Ernest’s passing will be celebrated by his family and friends at an open house on Dec. 29, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fletcher Elementary School.

Ernest’s family would also like to express their most sincere thanks to all his caregivers, Marie Bessette, Carol Jordan, and especially, Jessi Froebel and Nancy Cardinal, who helped with kindness and compassion to make Ernest’s passing as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

Donations in Ernest’s memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT; or Champlain Valley Agency on Aging, Meals on Wheels, Fletcher/Fairfax area.
