Coach resigns at Fairfax: Mary Gagne, head coach of the undefeated BFA-Fairfax softball team, has stepped down two weeks before the Division II playoffs.

The second-year coach who was a former Missisquoi standout resigned from her post Thursday, citing personal reasons, according to Fairfax athletic director Geri Witalec.

In her first season, Gagne led the Bullets to the Division II state title. This spring, the Bullets are12-0 and sit atop the D-II index standings.

Witalec said she will join the staff and lead the team for the rest of the season with volunteers Quentin and Marlene Karr. Witalec is a longtime former head softball coach at Colchester.

Anyone besides me wonder what kind of supervision this coach had from the administration? It just seems peculiar that a coach with Mary's track record would have to "resign' without some of the responsibilty falling on leadership. Good coaches don't put the blame on their team.

So often we never find out the whys, or we hear different views on the whys;  I guess I wonder WHY we aren't told;  sometimes the unknown makes it seem like devious works have happened;  isn't the truth better?  Isn't that what we teach our kids?

Speaking form a position in the know - the Administration is bound ( for both good and bad) by confidentiality.  To protect the coaches privacy.  The bad part here is when the coach explains the "WHYS" behind dismissals of contracts or resignations and the public who want to voice their opinion aren't allowed and are dismissed with "We're not at liberty to discuss personnel issues due to confidentiality restrictions".

"Conservatives see any progress outside of what they approve of as the 'liberal agenda'.  Apparently no one told them they and what they think aren't any better than the rest of us"

"A closed mind is more dangerous than an ignorant one"

Anyone know who has been named as the new coach of the softball team? I see the team is raising money for a trip to Florida next spring.
