Many of you Old Timers will remember when Jim & Evelyn Brown moved to Fairfax and purchased the Goodall House,  now owned by Betty Morgan on Main Street.

Hinesburg/Fairfax, Neal A. Brown, 60 formerly of Fairfax, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 in the VT Respite House in Williston.

Neal was born July 17, 1952 in Montreal, Quebec, the son of the late James and Evelyn Read Brown.   At a young age, Neal’s parents moved to Fairfax and he attended Fairfax schools.  Following his graduation from Bellows Free Academy Fairfax in 1970, he went to work at IBM in Essex for a short time until he enlisted in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He proudly became a naturalized US citizen in 1976.

Following his honorary discharge from active duty, Neal continued his military service in the active duty reserves until his retirement in 1990. After active duty service in the Air Force, Neal went to work as a Police Officer in Hampton, VA, where he met his future wife. Together they moved to Vermont in July 1983 where Neal worked as a Police Officer for the city of Burlington Vermont . He again found employment with IBM in 1984, retiring in 2012 as a Senior Manufacturing Specialist. On April 27, 1985 he married Dawn Marie Hooks in Hampton, VA.  While in Fairfax, Neal found pleasure in spending time with his twin children, three horses and two dogs, and working around the house. He took a keen interest in the Civil War and was able to visit Gettysburg in the fall of 2012.  Neal loved hockey and was also a New England Patriots fan who loved watching the games with Andrew, Mike, and Camden . Neal was adored by his 2 year old grandson Christopher, who affectionately called him Pepa.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn of Hinesburg and their two children; Andrew Brown and his girlfriend, Kelsey Antoniak of Essex, and Kelly Brown and her boyfriend, Joshua Caballero of Evans Mills, NY and his  grandson, Christopher Brown of Essex.  His brothers and sister; John Brown and his wife, Pepi of Oregon, Jim Brown and his wife, Lorraine of Bozeman, MT, Michael Brown and his partner, Barbara Wallace of Cambridge and Lynn Savage and her husband, Brian of Swanton.  He also leaves a very special sister in law and her husband; Kathy and Chuck Wickline of Hampton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Franklin County Humane Society 30 Sunset Meadow St. Albans, VT 05478 or the Fairfax Rescue Squad Inc., PO BOX 428, Fairfax, VT 05454-0428
At Neal’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Neal requested a celebration with friends and family to be held at 5 pm on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the John Ryan VFW Post 1767, 6 Maple Street, Winooski, VT 05404
