Calendar for December 2012:

Tuesday, December 4th, 3-4 pm: Chess Club
Play chess to your heart’s delight every Tuesday afternoon. Receive expert advice from a skilled instructor and play games with others. Boards and chess pieces are provided, though you can certainly bring your own.  Free, for all ages and abilities.

Tuesday, December 4th, 6:30-7:30 pm: VT Author Stephen Payne
All are welcome to join Stephen Payne, local author and fourth-generation Vermonter, in a discussion about his new novel Cliff Walking and the writing process. A lifelong writer, he has published fiction, non-fiction and poetry in a number of publications. Books will be available for purchase.

Thursday, December 6th, 6:30 pm: PJ Story Time with Exordium
Little ones are encouraged to come in their PJs for a wintery story time at the library. Special guest Mr. K from Exordium will lead participants through a winter wonderland with a story time, hands-on examples, and an animal track craft! Free, for ages 0-6. If you’ve never met Mr. K before, you are in for a treat!

Saturday, December 8th, 9:30-10:30 am: Homemade Holiday Crafts
The holidays are a perfect time for crafting! Join local artist Nichole Vance in a crafty morning of homemade holiday goodness. Attendees will have the opportunity to make cards, gift wrap, and ornaments from scratch. This program is free, but limited to 20 participants. Ages 6 to adult--families welcomed! Please call or email the library to register.

Tuesday, December 11th, 3-4 pm: After School Craft: Sock Snowmen
Turn your old sock into an adorable sock snowman! This wintery craft requires a sock, beans/rice, and a lot of creativity. Never fear, we will have an abundance of white/different colored socks available for this activity, if you can’t find a sock from home. Free, for ages 6+.

Tuesday, December 11th, 6:30-7:30 pm: Vermont in the Civil War with Howard Coffin
From Cedar Creek to Gettysburg, Vermonters were central to the Union Cause. Well-known Vermont author and Civil War historian Howard Coffin will speak on the Civil War and its effects on Vermonters. A Vermont Humanities Council event; free and open to all ages.

Thursday, December 13th, 3-4:15 pm: Read to a Dog
Kids can read a book of their choice to a fuzzy, friendly dog. To sign-up for a time slot, call (849-2420) or stop by the library. (This program is full but we will take names for a waiting list.)

Thursday, December 13th, 6-8 pm: Nourishing Our Children and Ourselves
Counteract holiday calories with healthy diet tips! The Nutritional Therapy Wellness Center of Vermont will be visiting to discuss healthy eating habits. In this two hour session, learn about what to eat and what to avoid to ensure your children and yourself are healthy. Free for all ages.
