Fairfax Rescue (Mike Spaulding & Nancy West) was by today to install a 911 house number sign so that if they get a call to come to my house, they will have no problem finding me - Every minute counts - Fairfax Rescue makes the signs which cost $15 and they are double sided and reflective at night so they can be seen more easily.  They are all placed near your driveway.  If your driveway happens to be on the same side of the road as your mailbox, you can use your mailbox post, otherwise for $7 you can buy a metal post like they one they installed for me.  They have orders for about 150 so far, so they have a big job ahead of them.  This will be a big help for both Fairfax Fire and Fairfax Rescue.

You can call the non-emergency number - 849-2773 and ask them to send you a form - You fill that out and send them your check and that should take care of it

How high are the signs and how high does the snow get? Just asking

If I recall the signs that are placed on the green posts are at about 36"- 48" (3ft - 4ft).  Snow depths, well that's a tough one. You never know what we are going to get from year to year.

You also have the option of placing them on top of your mailbox if it is on the same side of the road as your driveway/home.  Give the station a call  @ 849-2773 and speak to Mike.  He's our lead guy on this.

I joined Fairfax Rescue just over a year ago and these signs are a HUGE help when trying to locate our destination on emergency calls.  As someone mentioned already every second can count in an emergency.  The easier we can find you, the quicker you'll get the help you need.

Also, we've heard very positive feedback from delivery services as well.  UPS, FedEx, etc.. It makes it easier for them to deliver packages.

The E911 numbering system was federally mandated, but I do not think posting them was a requirement.  If it is/was, it is definitely not enforced.   I have heard and read about local municipalities that have enacted local ordinances requiring that the E911 signs be posted at all residences and businesses.

It would be great if everyone had them.

I believe when I talked with Mike that the numbers are posted on the same side of the road as the house either on the mailbox or at the driveway, so everything is in order for emergency vehicles to find.
