Probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I went and picked some blueberries at Gardell's. Wow! They have lots and lots of berries in various states of ripeness. The picking is really good, and there will be berries for quite some time. Ah, ployes and blueberries in January.  Yum!

Not stupidity!!!  Ployes 'is' a pancake mix made with buckwheat flour and white or whole wheat flour.  It is French Canadian. We buy it at Hannaford's. Generally I don't use mixes of any sort, but this makes very hearty, filling, delicious pancakes!  You can make the pancakes with just water or use milk and an egg to make them even more nourishing.

yes, they are!!! As a matter of fact my husband coached one of the Bouchard girls in Nordic skiing when he ran Nensa, and we were thrilled to make the connection. We've been buying them for years.  I don't remember when we first discovered them, but they make a hearty breakfast.

..and what is creton?  (there....see the questions, the conversation provoked by blueberries---so there Marcel Proust--you and your cookies)

I forgot that Fred coached Kelsey, my niece. Wish she would have kept with it. Creton is another French-Canadian thing, it's a pork spread. Kelsey's mom just had a close call kayaking.

I waited until one so I wouldn't have to say to myself...'only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun,'   then  I went up to Gardell's and spent an hour picking blueberries. What a treat it is to drive 5 minutes to pick blueberries!  Picking blueberries in the peace and quiet and beauty of the area is a delight.  It reminded me of when I was young  and my father and I would go to a  field where there were low-bush blueberries. And we would pick quarts of blueberries and bring them home and my mother would make blueberry pie. What a treat! And they still have lots of blueberries, so I will find an hour here and there and go and pick some more!  And when I go again I will remember picking blueberries with my father so long ago.
