Talking about the controls.

Setting the angle of the ladder.

Ladder fully extended.

Jesse Fleming heads up.

Jesse reaches the top.

After coming down, Jesse gave some helpful pointers to Greg Hartmann, who was next.

Mitchell Clark was next.

Dan Vanslette took a turn.

Patrick Bessette was the last one to go up.

Couple of quick questions ..

1. Set at the maximum angle -- what is the height achieved ?
2. What are the speciific applications this Big Boi will be used for ?
3.  What is the model year on this thing ?
4.  Did Mike Cain climb to the top of the extension ladder ?
5.  How was the view ?  Could you Canada ?  perhaps Russia ?

Chief Hayes can answer the first three questions.
4) No I did not even get near the ladder. I might be able to stand on the base, but that's about it.
5)From what pictures I saw the others take, good views of the immediate area.

Side note-I was really surprised people weren't traveling through town, and then stopping at the station. The tip of the ladder had to have been over the tops of the trees, so if you were going through the village, you must have been able to see the top of the ladder.

Hey Mike, I don't know if Chief is on the Forum. If not maybe you could pass this message along---I haven't seen anything (PR, stories, etc) about how the F D was "gifted" the truck. Perhaps people would like to know. If I missed a press release about it, I apologize.

Good Morning,

There will be an official press release soon as we are working with the Town of Fairfax Select Board to draft one now.  Stay Tuned.

To give a brief description of the piece,
It is a 1982 (meticulously maintained) Peter Pirsch 100’ Aerial.  It just passed a stringent NFPA 5 year test and should serve the community well for the immediate future until we are able to replace it with a newer Quint through our capital budget program.

This piece of equipment will allow the fire department to access numerous structures within the community that before was done with labor intensive ground ladders.  It will provide a safe elevated work platform to perform rescues, roof ventilation, chimney fires, elevated master streams at large fires, as well as hazmat decontamination operations.

Again the official press release to come soon,

Justin Hayes, CFI
Fire Chief

What a wonderful gift!  I have to say I would not climb that high, I felt a panic attack coming on just looking at the pictures!!
