UPDATED PRESS RELEASE – SHOOTING IN WEST CHARLESTON VT ON 10-14-10

Detectives from the Vermont State Police aggressively investigated the shooting that occurred in West Charleston on October 14th.  The State Police would like to thank the many people in the community for their tips in this case.  There were numerous witnesses that called the State Police stating they had been travelling on Route 5A both before and after this incident.  These witnesses provided vital pieces of information regarding the descriptions of the suspects involved and the vehicle involved.  The victim in this case, Donelle Morin, was also able to provide crucial information despite her injuries.  State Police would also like to thank the other Law Enforcement Agencies that responded to the scene on 10-14-10 and for their assistance in the investigation.

Investigators located the vehicle involved, a grey Dodge Dakota, and with the consent of the owner (who was not involved in this matter, therefore will not be named) seized it and brought it to the barracks for forensic processing.  Investigators were able to identify the subjects who had been in possession of the vehicle on 10-14-10.  The subjects were found to have been Deontae McNeil (23) of Plainfield, CT and Andrew Ladouceur (25) of Derby, VT.  The whereabouts of both McNeil and Ladouceur at that time were unknown.  Information in the investigation suggested both subjects were possibly headed to Connecticut.  Law enforcement alerts were issued for the Eastern states with special attention in Connecticut.

Continued investigation confirmed the involvement and identification of both McNeil and Ladouceur as having committed the incident at the home of the victim. Investigation revealed that McNeil was armed with a handgun and was responsible for the gunshot injuries to the victim.  It was found that Ladouceur used a knife that caused a laceration injury to the victim.  It was determined that Ladouceur had an active arrest warrant for failing to report in execution of a sentence in Orleans County, VT.  It was also learned that McNeil had an arrest warrant in Florida for probation violations but it was an in state warrant only.

Late in the evening on 10-15-10, Ladouceur contacted investigators through a 3rd party and advised that he was going to turn himself in.  Ladouceur subsequently turned himself in at the Derby State Police Barracks and was taken into custody without incident.

A short time later, the Putnam, CT Police Department found McNeil and took him into custody without incident.  He is being held as a fugitive from justice, extradition process is pending.

Charges being brought as of this time are as follows:

Andrew Ladouceur : Aggravated Assault with a weapon, punishable by up to 15 years

Aiding in the Commission of a Felony, punishable by up to 20 years

Ladoucuer is lodged at the Newport Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail.

Deontae McNeil :      Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, punishable by up to life

Aggravated Assault with a weapon, punishable by up to 15 years

Deontae McNeil is being held by authorities in Connecticut on the arrest warrant from Vermont, bail was set at $250,000.

Investigation to present has revealed robbery as a motive.

The investigation is continuing.

Ladouceur and McNeil’s mug shots were not available at the time of this release.  Once they become available, they will be sent in an additional email.
