Current News & Events / Re: Fairfax fireworks location?
« on: July 07, 2009, 05:09:17 AM »
Elizabeth,

Here is information from the Secretary of State's website that mentions the process of consideration of an article by Australian ballot.

"In order for an article to be placed on an Australian ballot, the electorate in your town must have already voted to decide either the election of officers by Australian ballot, all budget or money articles by Australian ballot, or all public questions, or a specific public question by Australian ballot. You cannot request that an article be considered by Australian ballot for the first time in a petition requesting that article to be placed on the warning. There must have been a prior vote by the electorate approving the use of Australian ballots for that category of articles, or you must first petition for a vote to decide the question by Australian ballot at one meeting, and then petition for the actual article that you want to have decided by Australian ballot at a subsequent meeting."

This information was taken from the following link:

Good luck with the petition

Current News & Events / Re: Fishing Area Access At Fairfax Falls
« on: June 26, 2009, 06:47:09 AM »
Henry,

The access road down to the falls was upgraded by CVPS a year or so ago, and is in passable shape. I have been down there a few times since spring with my truck, bike, and walking.

There is also a picnic table above the little parking area near the old portion of the Dam than is nice and shaded.

Enjoy,

Bill

I spent this morning in South Burlington at the Verizon wireless store. They took 30 min's to confirm that my phone was indeed dead, beyond hope, and that they had no utility to recover any of the lost content on my phone (contact book, pictures, other data) in it's current state. I sort of figured that they were going to have problems, as water was still occasionally dripping from the charger port.

After listening to the very nice sales person's pitch about how for a nominal purchase price and only 40 more dollars per month, I could have the best "Smart phone" on the market. That poor fella was really stumped when I asked him 1 simple question.... "But does it work after being dropped in the lake?". The answer was ...."Ummmmm I don't think so".

So, needless to say; I'm back to using an older phone that I already owned (I think it is so old, that it is actually only a phone) and I now have one more criteria when searching for my next new phone. I think I'm going to call it the "dock drop" test, or possibly the "LCI swim" test.

Have a good one,

Bill

Well, I successfully completed the process, and verified that I am infact an American citizen, that resides in Vermont.

This time, the process only took about 30 Min's, and I left with the promise of my new Enhanced Drivers License in 10-14 days (actual delivery time may vary) and a piece of 8.5 x 11 piece of paper to act as a temporary licence until the EDL arrives. By the way; your license photo displays on this piece of paper and takes up about 3/4's of it.

So, the answer to you question Henry; is Yes, or No not quite.... or possibly Maybe ????

Just a heads up. I spent 5 hr's at DMV in Montpelier yesterday experiencing this process. This is the only DMV location that issues "EDL's". They are still working the bugs out, but it should get better the more they issue.

A couple of important notes:
1) No copies of any supporting documents will be accepted. Only originals may be presented as supporting documents.
2) You can not know personally anyone who issued any of these supporting documents. So, for example; a Selectboard member can not use a tax bill as proof of residency (since that board member knows the Town Clerk).
3) Plan on spending at least 2 hours waiting (and bring enough quarters to feed the parking meter for 4 hours) you get 20 min's per quarter.
4) If your name has changed since you birth certificate was issued (you were married...) you need to bring your marriage licence, along with any supporting documentation for the name change.
5) If you are divorced, you need to being the divorce decree.

The DMV office in Montpelier is open daily Monday thru Friday from 7:45 AM- 4:30 PM (an not a minute later), and till 6:00 PM on Wednesday.

I just wanted to pass along my experiences, so that you are aware of some of the issues that I observed yesterday. Hopefully Friday will be a better day, when I try this a second time.

Regards,

Bill

Henry,

I found out about this yesterday when Ric called to find out more info about the Spill. The contracted company is monitoring wells in the area, but anyone in the immediate vicinity who experiences a change in the color, taste, or smell of their water should contact them. The Project Managers name is Martha Roy, and her Office Phone # is 802-654-8663 EXT 106.

If there are additional questions or concerns they can be directed to Bob Haslam with DEC for the State of Vt. His direct phone number is 1-802-241-3864.

It is believed that the spill has been contained, but they will be continuing the cleanup and monitoring for some time.

Hope this information is Helpful.

Well, It has taken a little longer than I expected, and I still have not received "Official" confirmation.

However; I have it from a reliable source that the community of Fairfax has been selected for the Safe Routes to School program!!!!!!

A confirmation letter is apparently on it's way to us, but I couldn't wait to share the news.

Congratulations to the entire community, and a big "Thank You" for everyone’s contributions in our successful Bid.

Current News & Events / Just a quick update.
« on: May 23, 2006, 07:43:51 AM »
For those that are interested in this project, I wanted to let you know that the state Agency of Transportation will be making their selections this week (Thursday). We should know the outcome on Friday May 26th.

There were a total of 39 communities statewide who applied for inclusion in this program. Four applications were from Franklin/Grand Isle counties. A.O.T. will be selecting between 12 and 13 applicants.

Hopefully I will be able to provide more news on Friday.

Till then, I have my fingers crossed.

Today is the final day to submit a letter of support for this very important program.

For those in the community that have already submitted your letters of support for BFA-Fairfax's inclusion in this fantastic program, I would like to extend a heart felt "Thank You”!!!!!

Without your commitment and support, our community would not even be considered for the Safe Routes to School program.

Again, My Personal thanks to each of you, and I will post again on this topic with the results of our bid to participate in this program.

The Town of Fairfax is currently requesting that BFA Fairfax be considered for inclusion in the Safe Routes to School Program. Letters of support from interested individuals or organizations are currently being solicited on the schools behalf. Letters of support will be filed with the official application to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
For more information, please see below.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
Community participation and support is encouraged for the Safe Routes to School Program, which Fairfax is applying for.
This program (SR2S) is federally funded, and integrates elements of transportation, economics, health, physical activity, environmental awareness and safety into one program. If Fairfax is selected, the program will provide support in the form of funding and services, to actively promote walking and bicycling by students and will identify and fund infrastructure projects to make this possible. The program will be closely integrated with other school-based health initiatives, and is guided by a task force representing a broad interest including the Vt. Dept. of Health, Education, Housing and Community Affairs, The Governor's Highway Safety Program,  American Heart Association, Vt. Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition, Vt. Forum on Sprawl, Regional Planning organizations, parents, schools, and is administered by the Vt. Agency of Transportation.
Fairfax is in a good position to be selected for this program, as many of the elements required for acceptance are in place, including support by the Selectboard and School Board, existing Wellness program in the school, studies indicating problematic infrastructure, and plans for improving infrastructure. One very important element is the support of the community. If you have an interest in participating, contact Colleen Steen, 849-6940, csteen@pshift.com

Here is a link to an informational pamphlet on the program.
