Just a thought MKR, maybe your friends should have posted here instead of you on their behalf.  When a third person says, this is what happened, it becomes speculation.  I have had nothing but positive experiences at the Country Pantry and it I am glad to have a quality restaurant in town.

I also don't think it is that odd to not serve pizza in the restaurant.  Lots of businesses do this kind of thing.  It allows them to offer more services and stops the different services from competing with each other.

I don't think the owner was trying to blame your relative, I think he was trying to say if she wasn't happy with his proposed solution she should have spoken up again.  Silence usually equals consent.  I wasn't there though and can't say definitely .

Has the water dept been running in surplus previous years?  Why are we running in the red now? What changed?

Also taking from a surplus to cover debt still means something is wrong unless the surplus is an accounting issue that links to the current debt.  I just want to know what the deal is and what's being done to fix it.

I finally had the time to sit down with the Town Budget last night and look over things.  I looked at the utilities section and was shocked to see that they are running around 19,000 to $21,000 in the red. (There are two different figures and I could not determine which one was correct.)  I also read that the town is responsible for this debt as the town secured the bond for The Utilities Department.  So somehow/somewhere we are taking money from the town to cover down on the debt of the Utilities Dept.  Can anyone give me insight into why Water and Sewer is running in the red?  What is being done to correct this? I looked for some kind of report from the Utilities Dept to explain this but other than accounting numbers I couldn't find anything.  I thought each division had to submit something but maybe I am wrong there.

On top of this I have seen on the LCATV coverage of the Town Meetings discussion about a possible conflict of interest between a Board member who is the head of the Dept and also serving on the Select Board.  There was some discussion that he was approving his own funding request.  If this is the case than some form of checks and balance needs to be put into place  for his sake to protect his name as well as the protect the financial well being of the town.  Maybe the situation is not as bleak as I am seeing but there are certainly some red flags here that should be looked at.

I just want to say that I am very pleased that we have local representatives who are motivated enough look at issues like this and not just continue doing business the same ole way.  They went out and did the best research possible, took their findings and made what looks like a cost saving decision.  I have been fortunate enough to have no change in the level of my service, everything is picked up when Duffy says it will and they have taken everything I have placed out.  Eveyone needs to be patient and remeber, They are collecting the trash for the 5th time this coming week.  As long as Duffy continues to improve and continues to address issues I am certain this issue will die and we will end up with a service equal to or better than the service that Casella was providing and at a reduced cost.

Dinner for a family of 4 for $77.00 is pretty reasonable.  You would be hard pressed to go out in Burlington, Williston, Essex or St. Albans for that little especially if there was any drinks on the menu...  If this was the same Mac and Cheese I had, it was made with a 5 year aged Cabot Cheese and came with two very large pieces of chicken which seemed like a very reasonably priced meal from my perspective.
