The library is now offering Curbside Pickup Service for books and materials on Thursdays! The new schedule is Wednesdays from 1:00 - 5:00 pm and Thursdays from 3:00 - 7:00 pm.

Visit the library website at fairfaxvtlibrary.org where you can use the online form to submit your book requests, or you can reserve books through the online catalog. You can also send an email (libraryfairfax@gmail.com or fairfaxlibrarian@gmail.com), call the library at 802-849-2420, or message the library on Facebook with a list of items.

Curbside service for libraries has been approved! Fairfax Community Library is delighted to provide patrons with access to materials through curbside pickup service. The hours will be Wednesdays from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, beginning May 20, 2020. Use our website catalog to search for items currently available at the library, and locate the items you want. There is a limit of 10 items per library card. You can send an email (libraryfairfax@gmail.com or fairfaxlibrarian@gmail.com), call the library at 802-849-2420, or message the library on Facebook with a list of items. Items can also be placed on hold on your library account. If you need any assistance, don’t hesitate to let us know.

Staff will check out your items and place them in a bag with your name. Bagged items will be on a table outside the building for contactless pickup. Items can be borrowed for 2 weeks.  Returned items can be put on the outside return cart during curbside pickup service times or in the book return bin. Thank you!

Join us for a virtual presentation by author Rebecca Rupp on Thursday, May 7th at 6:30 pm.! Ms. Rupp's presentation, "Wolf Peaches, Poisoned Peas, and Madame Pompadour’s Underwear: The Surprising History of Common Garden Vegetables", is sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council. As you look forward to summer gardening, or new things to read, you can find out "why a lot of us don’t like beets, how a 17th-century pirate named the bell pepper, how carrots won the Trojan War, and how George Washington was nearly assassinated with a plate of poisoned peas."

Come join us at the Fairfax Community Library this Thursday 2/20 for an exploration of Paper Crafting with Sara from 6-7:45pm.  Sara is sharing her knowledge and skills in paper making, paper marbling, paper mache, printmaking and other crafts.

No need to pre-register for this program.  Just drop in.
Sara will be available to assist anyone on an individual basis during this program.

Kids age 6+ will create a “Flying Tumbler”, a gravity powered flying machine, with local inventor Ralph Lemnah. Must register.

Thursday, October 25, 3-4pm: Crafternoon: Pumpkin Decorating
Kids ages 6+ will decorate mini pumpkins, always a favorite craft. Space is limited.  Please register early.

Tuesday, October 30, 9:30-10:30am: Preschool Story Hour: Pumpkins
Join us for themed stories, songs, and activities for ages 0-6. No registration necessary for Story Hour.

Wednesday, October 31, 5-7pm: Trick-or-Treat at the Library
The Library will be open on Halloween for Trick-or-Treating, bathroom breaks, and a spot to warm up if it’s chilly. We will offer both candy and non-candy alternatives for those with food allergies. You can show off your costumes and have your picture taken too!

Thursday, October 18, 6:30-7:30pm: Family STEAM Night- Rocks and Minerals
Join us for this great family program, where each month parents and children visit stations with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and/or Math (STEAM) activities. This month's theme is Rocks and Minerals. We will be investigating the properties of different rocks with hands-on experiments. Please register.

Saturday, October 20, 9-11am: Tech Help
Get help with individual tech questions. You can ask any technological question and/or bring in a device with which you need help. You will be ably assisted by our techie, Josiah. Call to reserve a half hour time slot, or drop in.

Saturday, October 20, 11:30-12:30pm: Fall Recipe Swap and Potluck
Bring in your favorite fall recipe, the one that makes your house smell so good, the one that always reminds you of crisp mornings and warm sweaters. We can make copies of recipes here at the library to share with others. And, if you are able, bring in a dish to share and we will host a potluck style meal at the library for lunch. (We kindly ask that you avoid nuts/nut products.) We also encourage bringing your own plate-ware for a no-waste meal.

Library Announcements / Halloween Candy Collection

You’ve seen the crowds of Trick-or-Treaters on Main Street!

We at the Library would like to take up a donation of candy for distribution to those folks who live on or near Main Street in the village and so generously open their homes and hearts (and wallets) for Halloween. Donations are welcome from anyone, but especially if you live on a back road and have kids or grandkids, please consider grabbing a bag or two the next time you go shopping!  And thanks.

TO DONATE:  Please bring donations of candy to the library by WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24TH AT 5:30 PM.
TO RECEIVE:  If you live on or near Main Street in the village and are one of those who gets swamped with kids, please call 849-2420 or email the library at libraryprograms@fwsu.org with your name, address, and phone number BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24TH AT 5:30 PM to sign up for a share.  We’d love to help you out!
After the deadline we will divvy up the donations AMONG THOSE WHO SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE A SHARE.  Donation share pick up will be between Oct. 26 - 31st.

Perfect for all skill levels, Julie Griffis leads this painting class through step-by-step instructions to create a masterpiece. This month’s piece will be a painting of autumn woods. Recommended ages 16+. Cost is $25 for materials and snacks. Drop ins welcome.

Wednesday, September 19, 3-4pm: Crafternoon: Fidgets
Kids ages 6+ will make a variety of fidgets and stress balls. Must register.

Thursday, September 20, 6:30-7:30: Family STEAM Night- Vegetable Science
Did you know a potato can power a light bulb? If you dissect a bean, what will you find on the inside? How many seeds does a pumpkin have in it? Find out the answers to all these questions at Family STEAM Night. Thursday, September 13, 6:30-8pm: Fairfax Reads Book Group discusses all the books we read over the summer.  Share about the books you loved, the ones that disappointed, and the ones that are still sitting on your nightstand. We will also give out copies of our first group read for the fall. We will be reading Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, a memoir by Barack Obama written in 1995 about his early years growing up as the son of a black African father and a white American mother searching for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. Copies are available to borrow at the library. New members always welcome.
