Homer Paul Corse, 75, was reunited on July 25, 2023 with his loving parents the late E. Rodney and Catherine (Provost) Corse. He was born on September 1, 1947 in Jeffersonville, Vermont, raised in Fletcher and was a graduate of BFA Fairfax.
Homer started on his 18th Birthday working for Union Carbide Eveready and retired after 40 plus years of employment. Homer was raised with a strong work ethic, and family values. Working the family vegetable garden and cutting firewood. When a teen in high school he took on the responsibility of the family farm and sugaring when his father was ill. A country boy with a love of the outdoors Homer would bring his siblings, son and granddaughter berry picking, hunting and fishing making many memories that we all cherish.
Homer is survived by his son Bryan Corse, granddaughter Breanne Corse and her mother Michelle Ryan, his siblings and their spouses Pat Corse, Elaine Barkyoumb, Barb and Robert Tremblay, Marlene Corse and Mike Martel, Doug and Sue Corse, Dennis and Michelle Corse, Marcia Corse and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2023 at A W Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel from 10:00 am until the hour of the memorial service at 11:00 am where military honors will be accorded and Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating the memorial service. A celebration of life will follow the service at the Fletcher Grange. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Ronald Francis Morin, passed away on July 20, 2023, in Fairfax, VT from complications from Agent Orange. He was born on November 7, 1947, in Colchester, VT.
Ron attended Christ the King for his primary education and later graduated from Burlington High School. He worshiped at St. Luke Catholic Parish in Fairfax, VT.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, lifelong member of the VFW of Essex, Vermont and Disabled Veterans of America.
Ron proudly served his country as a 94 Bravo and machine gunner in the US Army with the 131st Engineers. He received a medal for his service in the TET offensive and during the height of the Fall of Saigon, Vietnam. Upon returning home he was on active duty in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, then in the U.S. Army Reserve. After his military service, Ron pursued a career as a truck driver and warehouse foreman.
Ron was a hardworking individual who taught himself to play piano, guitar, banjo, and drums, one of the fondest memories was singing Holy God We Praise Thy Name with his father in church as a child. In his free time, Ron enjoyed pursuing his passion for music as a professional musician. At the tender age of 15 he earned a recording contract with the Peppermint Lounge in New York City., however being so young his parents refused to let him go. Though he was disappointed he continued to play with the Earthquakes, the Keynotes, Swift Kick, Phoenix, Buckhollow and Backroads bands. His loving wife will deeply miss his serenading her with Unchained Melody and many other songs with his perfect tenor voice.
He was a hardworking dedicated family man and is survived by his loving wife, Deanne Morin, and his children, Michelle Morin & fiancé, John Laplume, Travis & wife Cathy Morin, Heather & husband Tim Forsyth, Ronald Morin II, Randall Morin & fiancée Ruthie Homes, Kim Blalock, and Eric Morin. His grandchildren Dillon, Olivia, Briana, Parker, Tyler, Jake, Taylor, Kaitlin, Logan, Maggie & Cerridwin & great grandchildren Aliah and Elliana. His sisters Mary Lee Pidgeon and Karen Thornton, as well as his best friends Mel Raymond, Ed & Helga Nuttall & Donald & Penny Apted of Melbourne, Florida and his service dog, Gabriel Zeus.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Rosaire (Frances) Morin, and his mother, Erma Chamberlin, close friend, Donald Dubuque as well as his beloved dog, Thunder. Ron will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Thursday, July 27th, 2023 from 4-6PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street in Saint Albans.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lukes Parish, 17 Huntville Road in Fairfax, on Friday, July 28th, 2023 at 1PM, a graveside service with full military honors will follow at St. Luke Cemetery in Fairfax.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to Fairfax Rescue for their quick response time and professional services, as well as the V.A. in WRJ, Lake Nona Florida V.A. and the Mayo Clinic for their extensive care they provided.

Eunice M. (Toof) Root, 83, died on July 17, 2023 at Heaton Woods in Montpelier after a long illness. She was born on August 29, 1939 in W. Berkshire, Vermont, the youngest child of Mary (Munson) and Harmond Toof. She grew up in Fletcher on Maple Shade Farm, where she cherished her natural surroundings of fields and woods. Always a hard-worker, she did her part on the family farm logging, maple sugaring, gardening, canning, cooking and caring for her parents and her two nieces. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Fletcher and then achieved her high school diploma through correspondence from American School of Chicago. Later in life, she pursued her education further at Community College of Vermont and graduated with an Associate’s Degree.
She married Clayton Castle in 1964, had a daughter and fostered two nephews. She had a great love for animals and in 1978, she opened up her barn to provide the first shelter for dogs and cats in Franklin County. Her careers included housekeeping for private homes, resorts and hotels as well as farming. She also was a nurse’s aid for Franklin County Home Health. She married her second husband Wilfred Root, Jr. in 1984 and together they ran a burner service and electrical business. She was a warm and welcoming homemaker and hostess as well as a funny companion – a shining light to all her knew her. She loved reading, writing poetry, gardening, dancing and singing, and bird watching. She will be most remembered for her sense of humor, caring nature, and enthusiasm for cats.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and husbands; her brothers Harmon Toof and Vernon Toof; her sister Mae (Toof) Manning; and a wonderful niece, Sharon Bidwell. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Robin Castle and her partner Bob Robinson, both of Barre; her beloved niece, Mary Pilon of St. Albans; her foster sons, Brian Castle and Bobby Castle, both of Florida; her brother-in-law, Truman Breshears of New Hampshire; her step-children Pamela O’Neill and Kevin Root; three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Heaton Woods and the staff at Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice for seeing Mrs. Root to the end of her life with compassion.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday, July 22, 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Minor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Milton, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00. Burial to follow at Sanderson Corner Cemetery, Fairfax. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local humane society.

Robert “Bob” Charles Gaboury, 83, of Fairfax passed away Saturday July 15, 2023 at Franklin County Rehab with his sisters by his side. He was born March 3,1940 in St. Albans, Vermont son of the late Charles and Helen Gaboury. Growing up on a farm in St. Albans. He graduated from St Mary's High school in St. Albans class of 1959. He married his one and only love, Jean Wagner of St. Albans on May 15, 1976. They resided on Buck Hollow Rd in Fairfax since their marriage and have wintered in Dade City, Florida for 20 yrs.
Bob had numerous jobs in his lifetime starting with working at Jimmy fund in Boston after graduation and for many years with the Vermont Maple Tree project, Hillcrest Poultry Farm, retail endeavors that included, Screen Printing, woodworking, pet and clothing stores. Bob had a very creative mind and was always looking for a new challenge.
Bob had many hobbies and interests. Hunting, fishing, running and training beagles on his own running grounds in New York state. He was very active in Vermont Beagle Club where he won numerous trophies and ribbons. He also enjoyed Woodworking, traveling the US in his RV with his wife Jean and good friends Larry and Barb Young and Don and Peggy Greenwood, visiting flea markets and attending Bluegrass festivals brought Bob his greatest joys during his retirement years. He was very social, had a contagious laugh and many friends, a great memory and likes nothing more than sharing stories over a cup of coffee. Bob was very active member of his Florida Community where Everyone knew Bob. He will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean, two sisters Carol Boissonneault her husband Giles, Pauline Cray, ex brother-in-law Ned Cray, nieces and nephews Jay and Eric Boissonneault, Lori Brunelle, Timothy and Travis Cray and Kelly Shawver, special buddy Don Greenwood, many cousins. and numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Helen Gaboury and niece Amy Boissonneault.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Franklin County Rehab for the exceptional care he had received during his illness.

Wayne H. Toof, 78, passed away peacefully at the University of Vermont Medical Center on Friday, June 16, 2023, following a short illness. The only child of Harmon M. and Hildreth (Young) Toof, Wayne was born on January 11, 1945, in Fairfax, Vermont.
Wayne married his beloved wife, Myra Anne (Erno Raymond) Toof on March 25, 1978, and shared many happy years of marriage until Myra passed away in 2014.
Raised on a farm in Fairfax, Wayne had an idyllic childhood and graduated from Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax in 1963 where he played on the basketball team. While still in high school, Wayne joined the United States Navy Reserves (USNR) on February 18 ,1963 and, following graduation, was ordered to Active Duty on the USS Cadmus (AR-14). Wayne was then ordered to the YR-71 which was assigned to the Naval Support Activity in Da Nang. Wayne served in Vietnam from 1965-1967 before being honorably discharged as an Electrician’s Mate (EM3) in 1969. While in service, Wayne received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his service, Wayne also received the Vermont Distinguished Service Medal from then Governor James H. Douglas and he became an official Plank Owner for this participation in the Naval Support Activity in Da Nang, Vietnam. Wayne was very proud to service his country and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
After his departure from the service, Wayne quickly earned his Master Electrician License working at several local places including DMC Electric and at the University of Vermont where he first met his wife Myra, when they both worked in the Given and Rowell buildings. Wayne went on to work with his uncle Wendall Manning at his business Lakeview Plumbing and Heating before eventually taking over the business. Having enough of Vermont winters and frozen pipes, Wayne and Myra moved to Naples, Florida for several years where Wayne worked for Moorings Park, a retirement village. Eventually, Wayne and Myra retired back to Vermont to spend time with family and friends.
Wayne was a godly man and had a variety of interests but his most loved was hunting, being in the woods, and connecting with nature. Both dogs and cats were also very dear to Wayne, especially his many Pomeranian pups he had through the years: Mighty Might and Cinnamon to Frisky and his current pup, Myra, named in his late wife’s honor.
Wayne is survived by his sons Kevin and David Toof, as well as his stepsons, Jeffrey Raymond and his wife, Margaret Loftus, Gary Raymond, and Gregory Raymond and his wife Barbara Church. He also leaves his uncle and hunting buddy, Earl Toof of Connecticut. He is also survived by his very special friend (but more like a son) and caregiver, Brian Corey, and his daughter Abigail and her children, Isabella, and Phoenix to whom he was affectionally known as Grampa Wayne.
Wayne is survived by his sisters-in-law, Sandra Armstrong and Margaret Erno as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Wayne also leaves behind many good friends including John Baraby, Bill (Doc) Sheldon, and his nephew Tommy Erno.
Wayne is pre-deceased by his cherished wife, Myra, his parents, as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law, including his buddy, Walter (Joe) Erno.
The family wishes to extend much gratitude to the caring professionals at the University of Vermont Medical Center for allowing Wayne’s final journey to be comfortable and peaceful.
There will be no calling hours or memorial service at this time, but a celebration of life will be held in October. The date and time will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT or to a special charity of your choice. Obituary
Robert Orman “Bob” Ovitt Sr. 80 a lifelong resident of Fairfax passed away peacefully at his home on Friday July 7, 2023. He was born on May 26, 1943 son of the late Orman and Ivy (Webb) Ovitt. After graduating high school in 1961. He began work for Coca-Cola Company and then General Electric.
Upon graduating Bob married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Barkyoumb. They decided they would start farming and they bought their farm on Buck Hollow in 1968. They farmed together and raised their 4 children Sam, Carol, Rob and Joan. While raising the children they started Ovitt’ s Construction and also started sugaring. Eventually they parted ways, and the cows were sold shortly thereafter. Although Bob and Gloria divorced they remained the best of friends throughout their entire lives until her passing in 2021. Holidays were always spent together as one blended family and all were welcome. Nobody would pass up one of Gloria’s home cooked meals. Spending time all together was the greatest gift they continued to give their children and grandchildren.
Ovitt’s Construction and the sugar operation continued to be ran by Bob and his son’s Sam and Rob. The operations are still up and running today with grandson’s helping. Bob loved to run a bulldozer or an excavator, he loved rocks of all sizes. He loved to place them just so to create a beautiful area around a pond or build a stone wall.
In high school Bob was known for being quite the baseball player really a talented athlete in all sports he played. He was even being looked at to play professionally but his life took another path. He continued to love the sport and played on many softball teams. He played for years, made many friends and created some great memories. He also continued to send those softballs out of the park wherever he played. Bob was fun to watch and his enthusiasm showed on the field. He was a competitive kind of guy. He loved to hustle people in a good game of pool, setting himself up nicely to sink that eight ball. He enjoyed playing cards from cribbage to Gin and nothing was wrong with a round of poker. He also had a love of the outdoors he loved to hunt and fish. Deer season, if you didn’t know is a fifth season in Vermont, at least in his eyes. From all the deer hunting stories some good and maybe a few bad, oh how those stories and laughter rang out from deer camp. He loved to slip off in the afternoon to find those secret fishing holes and cast a line. He passed his passion for the outdoors and hunting down to his sons, grandsons, and some great grandchildren as well.
One of our favorite spots as a family is our camping lot at Fairfield Pond and we all enjoy it tremendously. We all have set on the stone bench placed so perfectly in front of the water by him. We have all enjoyed roasting food over the open fire built with stones. His parents purchased this land and it’s been a family tradition ever since. This is our families little piece of heaven where we have memories of 5 generations relaxing at the pond. We were lucky to celebrate his 80th birthday all together on May 26, 2023 not too long ago, that day was beautiful full of laughter and love. Having family and friends all together.
Bob had many friends, he lived his life fully on his terms and was a simple man and it took little to make him happy. He helped so many folks in difficult situations. His front door was always open. On any given morning you could find him sipping a cup of coffee, making eggs and bacon with a side of toast he loved breakfast. As he sat to eat, a whole lot of ketchup went on top. According to Bob everything tasted better with ketchup and I mean everything.
He was a joker at heart, the stories are many. He could be stubborn as a mule but down deep inside, had the biggest heart and would help anybody. Big Bob Ovitt, Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa you sure are going to be missed. We love you and our hearts will carry you forward.
Bob is survived by his children Sam, Rob and Carol Ovitt all of Fairfax, Joan and her husband Kelly Sweet of Fletcher, 10 grandchildren Joshua, Jessica Jordan, Kaitlin Ovitt , Kyle Ovitt and fiancé Nicole, Kody and wife Hannah Ovitt, Kole Ovitt and girlfriend Sophie, Brittany Sweet and fiancé Jessie, Danielle Sweet and fiancé Tim, Jacob Sweet and Jarrett Sweet, 7 great grandchildren which he enjoyed Ryleigh ,Nicholas, Jayleigh, Raelynn, Aubrey, Brayden and Granger, siblings Barb and Tom Sargent of St. Albans, Beverly and Dave Danyow of St. Albans, JoAnne and Jim Godin of Fairfax and Richard Ovitt of Fletcher, many nieces, nephews cousins and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Orman and Ivy Ovitt, sister Sandra Ovitt, His love of his life Gloria Ovitt-Ledoux and her parents.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the family lot in Fairfax Plains Cemetery, McNall Rd, Fairfax with Reverend Elizabeth Griffin officiating. A celebration of Life will follow at the Fairfax Community Center, 1210 Main St., Fairfax. Please come join us, share a story, enjoy some food and Honor our Dad, thank you. Stephen Joseph Ratte, son of the late Maurice & Mary (King) Ratte, passed away peacefully on Monday evening June 5th, 2023, surrounded by his Family.
Steve was born on October 1, 1935 in Burlington, Vermont and began his education at Christ the King School in 1940, the year the school was founded. When the family moved to the North End of Burlington in 1943, he entered Nazareth School. In 1945 another move landed them in the family homestead located in Fairfax. A few years later Steve became active in several 4-H club projects including raising dairy cattle and poultry. He was very enthusiastic about showing his Holstein cattle at the 4-H County Field Days, State Days, and eventually was privileged to show cattle at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Steve attended St. Mary’s High School in Saint Albans and graduated in the class of 1953. He married Pauline Boissonneault, the love of his life, on June 14th, 1958, a woman he had admired for several years as a Church parishioner. They were joined in holy matrimony in Saint Luke Church, Fairfax and enjoyed nearly 65 happy years together. Steve and Pauline were blessed with six loving children.
After graduating from Johnson State College, Steve continued his studies and earned a Master’s Degree in Teaching from St. Michael’s College.
Steve was a member of Saint Luke Catholic Church since 1945. He served on the Parish Council for a number of years. He was also active in the establishment of the original Fairfax Zoning Board, on which he served as a committee member for several years.
He taught school in Colchester, Milton, and Winooski, primarily at the high-school level. For numerous summers, Steve was employed for as a U.S. Immigration Inspector at the Highgate Springs Port of entry. Eventually he left teaching and became a full-time Immigration Inspector. After seven years at the Highgate Border Station, he transferred to the Eastern Regional Immigration Office in Burlington, where he worked in Personnel until his retirement in 1995. Steve was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Burlington in June 1983, and served in Saint Luke Parish, Fairfax as a Deacon for 38 years, retiring in June 2021. He was active in the Catholic Cursillo Movement, serving as a team member for a number of retreat-weekends. The Weston Priory was a special place for Steve, for solitude, meditation, and prayer.
It was only through the tireless efforts and support of his wife, Pauline, that Steve was able to serve as a volunteer in Prison Ministry for over 26 years, with the last 12½ years spent serving as Prison Ministry Coordinator for Vermont Catholic Charities. He strived to respond to the words of Jesus in Mathew 25: 36, 40: “When I was in prison you visited me . . . Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
One of his hobbies was gardening, especially hybridizing irises and developing new colors for flowers. In recent years Steve and Pauline enjoyed bringing flowers and vegetables to the Champlain Valley Fair, receiving many blue ribbons. Photography was a life-long hobby for Steve, through which he strived to capture God’s beauty in nature.
Many fond memories were created when Steve & Pauline traveled to visit children and grandchildren on trips to Maui, Hawaii and Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina. Another special place was the unique little town of Boquerón, Puerto Rico, which was like stepping back into the 1940’s to Steve.
Steve is survived by his wife Pauline and their six children: Denise Cota (Larry), Marc Ratte (Chantal), Stephanie Jenkins (Jeff), Bernard ‘Bert’ Ratte (Jackie Odre), Michael Ratte, and Jennifer Shepherd (David), nine grandchildren: Benjamin Cota (Allison), Bethany Cota (Nick Deavitt), Carissa & Gabrielle Ratte, Dylan & Anna Whaley, Morgan & Jack Shepherd, and Kayla Ratte, five great grandchildren: Nora, Beau, & Briggs Deavitt, and Caroline & Adelynn Cota, two brothers-in-law: Rene (Priscilla) & Giles (Carol) Boissonneault, one sister-in-law: Marie Boissonneault, in addition to several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Maurice & Mary (King) Ratte, father and mother-in-law Lucien & Simone (Brassard) Boissonneault, brothers-in-law Bernard, Maurice, & George Boissonneault, nieces and nephews Maria, Amy, Michael, & Alan Boissonneault.

ROCKPORT, Maine — Human remains that were discovered in Rockport in late April have been identified.
The Rockport Police Department said in a news release Friday the Office of Chief Medical Examiner identified the remains as 44-year-old Jared Paradee.
The remains were reportedly found in Rockport on April 28, and Paradee has been reported missing from Rockport since Feb. 23, 2022, according to the release.
"Paradee’s remains were located in close proximity to his last known address," the release said.
Rockport police said the area was searched extensively by multiple search parties, including Camden police, Maine game wardens, family, friends, K9s, and a drone.
"Positive identification was determined using DNA testing," the release said. "The cause and manner have not been determined. Based on information gathered during the investigation we do not believe foul play was involved."

Linda F. (Bourdeau) Tracy, 72, passed away Tuesday April 18th 2023 in the Rutland Hospital with family by her side. Linda was born at home in St. Armand, Quebec, on Oct. 7th 1950, daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Sis) (Erno) Bourdeau.
Linda graduated from Bedford H.S. and went on to study at the Jewish General Hospital School of Nursing Montreal. Later she went on to be Head Nurse at the Bedford Home for the Handicapped which she worked for many years. After she retired from there, she joined the Franklin County Home Health Agency and was a Hospice volunteer for a number of years.
She married Ralph Tracy on Oct. 11, 1993, on his farm in Fairfax, off the Fletcher Rd. Linda took after her mom in growing and caring for her beautiful flower gardens. She also loved her horses, (Jasper and Star), cats, and her dachshunds! She also loved traveling with her best friend Manon and garage saling with her friends Cathy, Linda A. and Trish!
Linda leaves her son Brian Bourdeau, wife Melissa and his grandmother Bertha Corey all of Bedford, Quebec her sisters Carol Ann and her husband Charles LaFlam of Brome Que., Denise and her husband Yvan Rousseau of St. Jean Que. and her brother Mark and wife Marie (Paquette) of Fairfax, her niece Amiee' Robert' of Quebec, also her granddaughters Charlize and Molly and her grandsons Zach, and Sunny all of Quebec.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph, her parents, Charles and Mildred and many Aunts and Uncles.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the UVM Hospital, to Dr. Carr and nurses at the Rutland Hospital and to the Rutland Rehab Center for their loving care they offered her.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday May 13th 2023 at Pigeon Hill Cemetery in Canada at 11:00am.

Lynette Emily Royer
St Albans --Lynette Emily Royer, 83, passed away April 10 2023 St. Albans Health and Rehab.
Lynette was born on August 11, 1939 in Saint Albans, VT, the Daughter of Harold Bessette and Beatrice (McNall).
On December 4, 1970 she married Roger Royer in East Hartford, CT.
Lynette was a LNA at for many years, in Connecticut. Upon retiring she moved back to St. Albans in 2000 She was a parishioner of Holy Angels Church, a lady of St. Ann. Lynette loved to garden and grow roses, working with the earth. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, and taking care of her grandchildren. She was an excellent cooked and loved to travel.
She is survived by: her children, Kimberly Royer Kujala and her husband Michael of St. Albans, Tammy and her husband Michael Buckmaster of Longmeadow, MA ; her grandchildren, Mary Hawkins Beatrice Rose Berry and Sarah Ann Buckmaster; her siblings James and his wife Rebecca Bessette of St. Albans Bay, Donald and his wife Francis Bessette of Highgate, and her fur babies, Willy, Cuddles and Memphis.
She is predeceased by her parents Beatrice Anna and Harold Joseph Bessette and her husband Roger Royer.
On behalf of the family we would like to thank St Albans Health and Rehab and Bayada Hospice for the wonderful care Lynette received. Words can not convey our appreciation of the love you have shown her. We will forever be grateful.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 5-7PM in the Minor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Milton. Her funeral mass will be held on Thursday 1 PM in Holy Angels Church, St Albans, followed by the interment in St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax.

Fairfax, VT - Douglas E. Stuart, age 85, passed away on Sunday April 2, 2023, surrounded by his family at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans after a brief illness.
He was born in the house his father built, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 6th, 1938 to the late Robert and Ruth Stuart. The house was part of their small family farm worked with his grandfather and grandmother, Hugh and Charlotte. His childhood was filled with caring for chickens, pigs, and helping tend to over 30 beehives. He attended both middle school and high school in the area competing in cross country running while being an “average” student. One of his favorite stories for his children and grandchildren: school was about 2 miles from home and the daily walk or bike ride was uphill, both ways, and his parents never drove him to school!!
After graduating high school, he attended Purdue University studying engineering and was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. It was at Purdue where he met his future wife, Ruth. They married shortly after graduation in 1960. His first adult job was working at Hein-Werner designing hydraulic jacks and lifts. It was during those 5 years he earned the first of several U.S. patents, with a coworker for an air jack design. In the summer of 1968, he took a job in Vermont at Simmonds Precision in Vergennes, with the draw of winter skiing as a primary factor. The move turned out to be one of his best decisions as he loved working at Simmonds for over 25 years. While at Simmonds, he and his immediate colleagues earned three additional patents tied to aircraft fuel measurement. He also traveled the world for work registering just shy of 1 million flying miles to countries like Japan, Norway, Germany, Brazil, and Great Britain.
Before retiring in 1993, family time included skiing every winter at the Middlebury Snow Bowl, summers in South Hero on Lake Champlain, water skiing, and carting his three children to all their activities. Retirement enabled him to pursue several lifelong passions including skiing (Sugarbush and Smuggs), boating, riding his motorcycle, traveling in the RV, and developing a deep knowledge of the Civil War. He and Ruth saw most of the country in the RV including Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, and all major Civil War battlefields. Doug was an active and lifelong member of the Lions Club and helped maintain enough of the VAST Trail System that they named a bridge after him just last year. Recently, Doug reduced his RV travel schedule but decided it was a good time to pick up a Honda scooter. He really enjoyed the scooter in particular for achieving just shy of 100mpg, feeding his penchant for frugality. Active to the very end, he enjoyed several days of skiing this past winter with the last coming just 10 days before his death.
Doug is survived by his three children sons James (Mary Jo) of Marquette, MI, Michael (Missy) of Essex Junction, VT, and daughter Holly (Christopher) of Fairfax, VT; three grandchildren, Alden and Charlotte Stuart of S. Burlington, VT, and Quinn Mewhirter of Fairfax, VT, and his sister Mary of Wisconsin. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth in March 2020, and brother Richard of California.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northwestern Medical, in particular nurse Shannon, Dr. Kaplan, and “Dr Amy” for their compassion and guidance.

Essex - Janet Marie (Barkyoumb) Yandow, 81, passed away at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester on March 29, 2023, surrounded by her family after experiencing many years of health issues. She was born on July 11, 1941, daughter of the late Kenneth and Jean (Brodeur) Barkyoumb. Janet graduated from BFA Fairfax, Class of 1960. She married Roger Yandow in 1964. Janet worked at the Mary Fletcher Hospital for a few years then became a homemaker and managed the family rental property.
Janet and Roger spent lots of time with family going on snowmobile outings when their children were young and camping trips and other outings in the summer. They were also involved in a bowling league for several years where they made many friends. Later in life, Janet also spent time swimming at the local gym with a group of women who would become dear friends and who would celebrate their birthdays together. Anyone who met Janet for the first time would quickly learn she was the oldest of ten children. She was an easygoing, kind and sweet person who really took lots of joy in spending time with all of her family. At an early age, Janet began what would be a lifetime of caring for others. She often would babysit her siblings while her mom was busy with other things. Later in life, she cared for elderly neighbors and many elderly family members who needed help. Janet also helped her church by being part of a group to provide dishes for funeral luncheons and she also volunteered her time to collect for the Bishop’s fund. Janet was blessed with four grandchildren and cared for them when they were very young. She formed a special, long-lasting bond with Colby, Ryan, Travis and Hanna. They were the joy of her life and she cherished every moment with them.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Roger, daughter Lisa McEvoy and husband Joel of Essex, son David Yandow and Mary Lynn Kemp of Sheldon, grandchildren Ryan McEvoy, Hanna McEvoy, Colby Yandow and Travis Yandow. Her siblings, Betty Severance of Sheldon , Linda Mathieu and husband Richard of Westford, brother Ken Barkyoumb, Jr. of Bolton, Debbie Irish and husband Mark of Fairfax, Susan Corse and husband Doug of Fairfax. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ray and Elaine Yandow of South Hero and Bernard Yandow of Essex. A special Aunt and Uncle Alice and Buzz Collins, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Janet was also predeceased by brother, Frank Barkyoumb; sister Brenda Barkyoumb; sister Sandra Cutting; sister Gloria Ledoux; brother-in-law Ron Cutting; brother-in-law Al Ledoux; brother-in-law John Severance; sister-in-law Carol Barkyoumb; nephew Jim Cutting; nephew Brian Barkyoumb. Parents-in-law Leon and Loretta Yandow; brother-in-law George Yandow; sister-in-law Pauline Baker; sister-in-law Sylvia Yandow. The family wishes to thank the staff at McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, VT for providing exceptional care and support for Janet in her final days.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home - Essex. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X in Essex on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Ranges officiating. Interment will be immediately following the mass at Holy Family cemetery, Lincoln Street, Essex.

George A. Boissoneault passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday evening, February 20th , 2023, following a brief illness, at the age of 84. He was born in Addison, on May 6, 1938, son of Lucien and Simone Boissoneault. His spirit and love will live on in our hearts and memories as a father, son, brother, grandfather and friend.
George was one of six children, ranking at number three. He leaves his older sister, Pauline (husband Steve) Ratte, and younger brothers, Rene (wife Priscilla) and Giles (wife Carol).
He was predeceased by his daughter Maria, his wife Mary, brothers Maurice and Bernard, his parents, and many friends and loved ones.
George’s childhood began growing up with his family in Addison, Vermont. They soon relocated to Fairfax after purchasing a farm in the village. While working the farm together, George’s nature led him to tend to the land. He was a strong and hardworking young man, always ready to work in the dirt. Being the great hunter and fisherman of the family, he enjoyed many days hunting and fishing in the brooks and woods around the village of Fairfax. During the summer days, George loved exploring the woods with friends and family, often carving their initials into beech trees. Some of those spots can still be seen today.
After graduating highschool, George spent time working both at the railroad and in construction. In 1959, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Alaska. Upon completing his service, he returned home to Fairfax, purchased the family farm and began his lifelong career in the dairy and agricultural industry.
On August 17, 1963, he married Mary J. Magnan and together embarked on their journey of raising a family of six, beginning in Fairfax and later moving to Saint Albans Bay in 1971. Throughout their years, George and Mary worked to expand their farm while passing along the legacy to their children.
In the early 1990s, George added sugar maker to his list of many trades. His first sugar bush was located at the Riverbend farm in Fairfax and later he pursued a partnership in a sugaring operation in Northern Maine.
George was a master storyteller with a grin that lit up the room. He had a strong work ethic and was always looking for a deal, big or small. Most days began with a morning coffee followed by his daily ride around the horn. George was a conversationalist who loved to reminisce with anyone about the good ole days. He was generous, friendly and kind, always helping those when he could. An outdoorsman, with a love of nature, he embraced the solitude and peace it provided. Many adventures, laughs and fond memories were enjoyed at his camp in the North Maine Woods, his home away from home.
Most summer nights you would find him rocking on the porch, sharing a glass of wine or sitting alone while keeping watch of the world around him. During his later years, George most enjoyed time spent with family and friends. In the winter months, he looked forward to soaking in the sunshine and exploring the New Mexico countryside.
George is survived by his five children, daughters Cheryl Lupien (Mark Stanley), Michele and her husband, Michael Bruso, all of Fairfax, sons Jeff and his wife, Tammy Boissoneault of St. Albans Bay, Jason Boissoneault and Justine Kinerson, of Fairfax, Joshua and his wife, Christina, of St. Albans Bay; his pride and joy, eleven grandchildren Erica (Tyler), Jordan (Travis) and Jacob (Mattie) Lupien, Amelia (Tim) Rebeor, Ben and Carl Bruso, Cody (Kate) and Myriah (Christian) Boissoneault, Mary-Kate, Kelli and Colt Boissoneault.
Family and friends may call at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans from 4 to 7 p.m. on THURSDAY, March 2nd, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated SATURDAY March 4th at 11 am at the Church of the Nativity, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will be later in the Boissoneault family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
