A big black bear crossed the road in front of me about
20 feet ahead. Awesome!!!

Thank you! I appreciate your explanation. Oh one more question... If we vote NO, our property
Taxes will be reduced? And if so, I wonder by how much?
My best,

I have no idea how most residents feel about this Trash dilemma. I wish there was a poll of residents. I'm an educated woman, but this is confusing. My fault to a large degree....didn't have time to do all the research ahead of time.
As a senior, I cant haul trash anywhere. Our property taxes are high and we can't even get our trash hauled? That to me is incredible!!!

Anyway, I would like to have some idea how residents are voting. If I cant haul trash off property, I will have to vote YES.
I can imagine this is going to be messy in more ways than one. See you tomorrow.....

General Discussion / A Neighbor Needs Our Help...GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN
« on: February 23, 2016, 11:03:44 PM »
Hello,
A wonderful neighbor in Fairfax needs help. She was diagnosed with degenerative
Bone disease, and needs major dental work.
We all have financial concerns, and issues . But if we can contribute whatever we can, it would really help her out.
Her insurance from her full time job is not enough to cover the cost.
I am writing this to ask for your support with her permission.
Thank you, thank you!

You know me as Nancyd. I am a registered nurse, with a BSN in nursing. I also do indepth research into various health conditions to investigate current modes of treatment.
There are conditions that necessitate the use of digestive enzymes.
The problem is, they are very expensive., and can cost upwards of $400.00 a month, depending on the brand recommended by the physician. That is the copay amount..depending on drug coverage. Now there is a backorder on pancrealipase.

My research recently uncovered a site in California that provides health supplements, and a digestive enzyme called pancreatin. Physicians prescribe varrying doses of digestive enzymes depending on the needs of a patient. The dose is determined by the condition, ie, pancreatitis, IBS, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth ( SIBO), and others, and by body weight.

Digestive enzymes are very expensive. The company I found makes pancreatin and amounts of lipase stated is 17,000 units per capsule.physicians usually prescribe 45,000 to 85,000 units per meal for patients with SIBO and pancreatitis.

Getting back to cost.. The company I found provides a stated 17,500 units
Per capsule . the cost for the amount needed is $149.00 versus $250.00 to $400.00 a month.
This is huge savings. I have sent capsules to a testing lab to verify the amount of lipase as stated on manufacturers site. Lab assay Costs $200.00.

Once the assay is completed, I will post the manufacturer.
IMPORTANT...you should NEVER obtain digestive without prescribing physician approval. Digestive enzymes are mostly via Prescription. There can be issues of overdosing, interactions with other drugs. A gastroenterologist looked at my information, and said they would OK to use, as long as the manufacturer has stated correct information, hence the assay test.

Many many thousands of people suffer from conditions requiring the use of digestive enzymes.
As a nurse, I want to keep my community informed on this important issue. My information is for educational purposes only.
Nancyd

I received results of assay. The actual content of Lipase in each capsule is 15,100 units
And not the stated 17,500 units. However, one can adjust  the needed number of capsules on Dr's suggestion. I buy these pancreatic enzymes from Pure Prescriptions.com. look for Pancreatic Enzyme Formula. I get 2 bottles of 180 caps per bottle.

I have read that 56% of people with IBS develop
small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. There is no cure for this. I can help if you are suffering from SIBO or Crohn's as symptoms are similar. PM me if I can help.

General Discussion / Re: Need Your Input on Cable TV
« on: February 05, 2016, 09:22:52 AM »
Thanks Joe and all who responded! I'm AM techno challenged!  So all your advice is greatly appreciated! As a senior citizen , I do pretty well fixing things, but I have yet to understand my awful Chrome box computer and cable TV. Soooo, you guys have pointed me in the right direction. Just one more question....I pay Directv about 109.00 a month....that's with no HBo, or Starz of any movie channels except TMC. I think that's a lot! Just curious if there would be savings with Dish.
Hey, enjoy Superbowl Sunday!

General Discussion / Norovirus Health Note from a nurse
« on: January 24, 2016, 11:09:13 AM »
Sad that so many kids were out sick with Norovirus. OK so they disinfected the school. Did they disinfect everything? What about locker combination locks and stair rails, and classroom doorknobs?. That all needs to get done. The Norovirus can stay on surfaces for days and weeks.
I suggest sending your kids to school with disinfecting wipes ( do not flush them down toilets).

Stay well and be safe🙂

Hello out there. Happy Holidays!

Speaking of which, I am wondering if people here in town tip the sanitation guys, postal workers  or anyone else you can think of.
Thanks and have a wonderful Holiday!

General Discussion / Re: Someone cutting wood in Rec Park on Sunday
« on: November 22, 2015, 09:51:30 AM »
MaryK,
I don't think so....it looked too suspicious. It was on a Sunday at 4:30 pm nearing dusk. I saw that when the guy noticed a police vehicle, he went back to his truck and drove through the back woods ...he was trying to get away......that was clear to me. There may have been legitimate work done in the park, but this was something else.

Who saw this? Two people were cutting wood in the Rec park on Sunday about 4:30pm. Wow, that's brazen! I know it's getting cold and people need wood for their stoves, but hey, they shouldn't be taking it from the Town Park!!! Shame on them!

Hello Neighbors,

Some of us received an email from Susannah Chamberlin, President of Citizens For Fairfax Community.
"THE BAPTIST BUILDING IS BEING OFFERED TO THE TOWN
FOR USE AS A COMMUNITY CENTER AT NO COST"

BUT we must show our SUPPORT To the Select Board Committee by attending the meeting scheduled on October 19th.

"Come to the Selectboard meeting on October 19th at the BFA elementary gymnasium at 6PM to show your support.  We need a lot of people to turn out (160 to 200) to convince the Selectboard that it's not just a few folks who want the Baptist Building to be taken over by the Town and turned into a community center.  So let your friends and neighbors know and let's have a great turnout!   If you are unable to attend but want to show your support, please e-mail the Selectboard at:    SB@fairfax-vt.gov"

My opinion is we need a community Center to promote a strong community. We have to ability to provide resources and programs for all residents, old and young alike. We have talents, experience , knowledge and resources to support our young,,with fun and exciting confidence- building  activities. A Community Center is for sharing. It is the bridge to a strong and vibrant community.

Please come and show the Select Board your support for this generous opportunity!
