Current News & Events / Peg Pare Dies At Age 95
« on: May 24, 2018, 09:30:01 AM »
Swanton - It’s been said of the Greatest Generation that, “they stayed true to their values of personal responsibility, duty, honor, and faith.” No more could be said for that of Remi Ernest “Peg” Pare’ who died at his home in Swanton on Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018 at the age of 95.

A product of his upbringing, the third child of ten to Canadian immigrants Alcide E., a butcher in St. Albans, and his wife Blanche (Daze) Pare, he attended Holy Angels, St. Mary’s and graduated from Bellows Free Academy before signing with the Navy along with his brothers. He served proudly in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Colorado during WWII and was honorably discharged in December of 1945.

Like many of the depression era his work ethic was unmatched. After the war, he tended bar at the Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes, and the American Legion in St. Albans. He went on to have a lengthy career in the finance department at IBM. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Jeannette “Jan” (Ovitt) who predeceased him in 2008 after nearly 60 years of marriage.

True to his faith, Peg was a devout catholic and communicant of St. Mary’s Church, and a life member of the Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion.

Blessed with a retirement many only dream of, Peg and Jan enjoyed wintering in New Port Richey, FL where they golfed, played shuffle board and cards, and listened to Glenn Miller with his brother and sister in law, Romeo & Jo, and friends. Rarely a day went by without a 4 o’clock Manhattan before dinner, or a family party ending without a verse of Alouette. In his later years Peg enjoyed sitting on his porch at Country Club Estates overlooking the 7th hole where he got his only hole in one, watching the birds and playing cards with his brother and sister in law Dada & Polly, his sister Jane, and the occasional cribbage match with a special niece Kelly.

It’s not what we have in our life, but who we have in our life that counts, and Peg is survived by his daughter Carol McKinney and son in law Michael W. of St. Albans, his grandsons, Scott M. McKinney of South Boston, MA, and Brian C. McKinney & his wife Kerrin of Framingham, MA, his great grandsons, Aidan, Colin and Devin McKinney, his sister, Jane Magnant of St. Albans, his brothers, Raymond Pare & his wife Pauline of Swanton, Joseph Pare & his wife Carol of Rocky River, Ohio, sisters in law, Lillian Pare of St. Albans, and Joan Ducolon & her husband Ron of Swanton, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his beloved wife Jan, Peg was predeceased by his siblings, Cecile Ferland, Jimmy, Fred, Henry, Romeo and Hubert Pare.

A special thank you to Terry Perron, who not only took care of Peg, but became a true friend.

Family and friends will honor and remember Peg’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans on Friday, June 1 from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, 45 Fairfield St., at 11:30 A.M. Interment with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Peg’s name to: The Connor Roberts Memorial Fund, c/o Ben Roberts, 20 Tanglewood Drive, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.

Fairfax - Ada Sorensen died tragically in an automobile crash on Friday, April 20, 2018, on her way to school. She was a bright, spirited, incredible person with so many gifts. The world will miss what she had yet to bring us and were so blessed to have had her with us for sixteen years.

Ada was born in Seoul, South Korea on October 2, 2001, and came home to us on March 7, 2002, to join her brother, Huck, and complete our family. She was spunky and on the move. We would wake to hear a thump on the floor and pitter-patter of her scurrying to come downstairs. We know so many families in Fairfax, and now St. Albans, who consider Ada part of theirs.

Ada excelled in, really, everything. She was sensitive to peoples emotions and couldnt tolerate mistreatment of others. As an athlete, soccer ruled, and she was the heart of the field. Art was Adas expression and she had so much insight and so much to say. She always caught the biggest fish, and by five years old was the designated fish cleaner. In the kitchen, she whipped up new recipes on a whim, from brownies to guacamole to sushi. She had dreams of becoming a biomedical engineer that would use her science and math savvy to do great things for people most in need.

We invite all, who wish to come, to the Collins-Perley Sports Complex, 890 Fairfax Road, St. Albans for a Visitation on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 4:00 7:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial, from 7:00 8:00 p.m., where we encourage you to share stories, memories, song, whatever you wish, to celebrate this incredible spirit, Ada.

Ada leaves behind her parents, David Marchant and Jane Sorensen, brother, Huck Marchant, parental grandparents, John and Helen Marchant, maternal grandmother, B. Joan Sorensen, aunts and uncles, Larry and Cindy Marchant, Deb and Tom Gill, Karen and Mike Brodie, Kathy and Duncan Meldrum, Janet and Chuck Kahn, numerous cousins and second cousins, special friend Lucy Goldman and her family and boyfriend, Josiah Parker. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Arne Sorensen, and cousin, Eric Marchant.

Respecting Adas passions, memorial contributions can be made to any animal rescue or arts programs of your choice, and the Fairfax Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 428, Fairfax, Vermont 05454.

To send a written condolence or share a memory, please go to Adas on-line guest book at www.healdfuneralhome.com.

Orval and his wife Mary (Boutin) Combs have been married 20 years and resided in Fairfield. Orval joined the Army in 1952 and served through 1953. This is where Orval learned boxing. He missed only 3 or 4 outings of Golden Gloves, since 1954. This was his greatest outing in the winter and come, rain, sleet or storm he was there. He said, I would have to be really ill if I couldnt make it to the fights. Another of Orvals greatest hobbies was horse pulling. He had earned many ribbons and trophies over the years. Not a day went by where he wasnt talking about horses or pulling. Orval and Mary adopted Marys granddaughter Samantha, after the passing of Marys daughter Christy Boutin. Current News & Events / Delmar King Dies At Age 98
« on: March 18, 2018, 12:28:20 PM »

Fletcher - It is with great sadness that the family of Delmar Everett King announces his passing on the afternoon of March 13, 2018 at the age of 98 in the home of his eldest son surrounded by family. Delmar will forever be remembered as a hardworking farmer, loving husband, father, and grandfather. Delmar was born on October 6, 1919 in Fletcher. He was the son of the late Frederick and Charlotte (Cox) King. He attended school in Fletcher and only completed the eighth grade and partially through his freshman year because he was needed at home to help his parents on the farm and with their sugaring season.

When Delmar was young, he enjoyed summer time and ice fishing catching Horned Dace, Trout, and Perch from Half Moon Pond and Metcalf Pond. He shared many days of ice fishing with his sons on Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed deer hunting when he was able to go. In his lifetime he shot ten bucks ranging from spike horns to the largest deer of five points and 180 pounds on the farm where his son Alans house now stands. One of Delmars wishes upon his death was to have a small portion of his ashes placed at the spot where he shot his first deer on the farm. Delmar attempted to enlist in the military during WWII in Rutland, but was declined on the fact that the country needed farmers at home to keep agriculture thriving.

He married the former Madeline Boozan of Fletcher on April 24, 1948. Just prior to their marriage they purchased the farm in 1948, 70 years ago. Together they raised three sons and established a successful dairy farm of Holstein cows. He would often drive the blue Ford tractor in the fields when haying. The farm was active for 58 years until December of 2006 when Madeline became ill with cancer. The day that the cows walked out of the barn for the final time was a day of sadness and reminiscing for our family that evoked many emotions especially from Delmar and his son Leon who had been working alongside his father since he was young. For the past few years Leon would take Delmar for an afternoon drive almost daily in his truck so that Delmar could see how other farms and crops were fairing and what was new at farming businesses around Franklin and Lamoille counties often with a cold soda or ice cream cone.

Delmar was forever telling stories and at times you could find him leaning on the back of a pickup truck under the oak tree in the dooryard with his sons and grandchildren talking to whoever decided to stop by whether it was a neighbor or a farming salesman of some sort. Often he would be whistling or humming a tune or a little ditty from his earlier years. One of his favorites was the song Blue Skies performed by Willie Nelson.

Delmar is survived by his 3 sons Leon King and wife Cindy with their children Amanda King, fianc Timothy Johnson of Underhill and youngest daughter Christine King, Loren King and wife Guyla with their son Justin, Alan King and wife Lisa with their children Jonathan and Nichole King, 2 brothers Doug King and wife Norma, Bernard King, and sister Audrey Towne, great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Delmar was also predeceased by his wife Madeline King in January of 2007, and his brothers, Foster, Wendall, Malcomb, Neil, Harlan and two sisters Beryl Tabor and Doris Wagner.

Delmar loved the King family and his brother in law Leonard Tabors family and on behalf of him we would like to thank you for all of the wonderful memories made throughout his lifetime.

It is the beginning of the next chapter for Delmar and Madeline as they are together now and forever more. A private family service will be held in the spring at the Binghamville Methodist Church where he will be laid to rest with Madeline. Memorial contributions in Delmars memory may be made to Franklin County Home Health and Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478 or to Delaney Sweet-Werneke Go Fund Me Account. The family also invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting the A.W. Rich Funeral Home website, www.awrfh.com
