The Chronic Lyme scenario is very disturbing. The FBA and AMA have dug in and refused to change their position on this so many times! (No wonder when they are in the big pharmaceutical company's pockets.) It appalls me that there has not been more national media attention with this issue. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to make sure to watch "Under Our Skin", an eye-opening documentary on the chronic lyme debate. As a healthcare worker, I have learned firsthand through patients that have battled to make sure they are treated from chronic lyme properly (long-term antibiotics) instead of letting unknowing or misguided doctors to misdiagnose them with ms, parkinsons, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc etc etc. Chronic lyme, in my opinion, is real, and is being largely ignored by the medical community because of a lack of understanding and shady pressure from the big drug companies. It is time that this is fixed!

Was this already posted and I missed it? If so, I apologize.

I found a nice clip that wcax did on our seniors here at BFA. I have had the chance to interact with
some of these seniors at plays, blood drives etc. I have to say that I have been impressed with how
bright, motivated, and pleasant they all are. Kudos to this years seniors, I have no doubt they will go far.

Exactly 7F24, I was wondering how long it would take until the conversation really shifted from "Why do we need this?" to the seemingly more heated issue of "Why weren't we asked?" Two very different issues, and rightfully so. I echo your sentiments, being on any of the "boards" is a thankless job that nobody wants but everyone has an opinion on... Not a position I would want to hold...

As a Fairfax resident, I feel like the bottom line here is this:

If something happens in your home during the middle of the day, wouldn't it be nice to know that someone is at the fire station instantly responding for your call for help? Even something as "simple" as a chimney fire can go from bad to very, very bad in a short amount of time. Currently, if nobody is available in town for your call, other towns must be called in to help. Since most surrounding towns are in the same situation Fairfax seems to be in with volunteer departments, you could be looking at a considerable amount of time before Cambridge or Essex makes it this far out to help you. Add to this the problem of them not living here, and therefore not knowing the area and you can tack on even more time to their response. This is just my opinion, but I would rather be safe than sorry, and having a full-timer seems like pretty cheap insurance to me. By the way, I wouldn't use St. Albans as an example of something that works, it's only a matter of time before a civilian or firefighter gets hurt or killed out there due to that situation...

Current News & Events / Red fox on main street?
« on: January 08, 2012, 01:32:17 AM »
I live right on Main Street here in Fairfax. I came home from work tonight and as I was walking to the door I looked back toward my car and saw something move on the other side of the hedges just off the lawn. I stopped to see what it was as there has been loose dogs and cats around before. To my surprise, the critter turned and ran up the driveway and onto Main Street. It ran into the streetlight and to my surprise it was a large red fox! I whistled and he stopped and looked at me for a second, then turned and ran north right up the yellow line of the road. Trying to find a meal amidst the snow I suppose.

Now, he looked healthy and it was at night, but just wanted to give people a heads up that I saw it right in town. If you do see it during the day you should call someone (not sure who in town) because it may be rabid, as foxes are nocturnal. Those of you who have small children and pets may just want to keep an eye on them when outdoors.

Josh, you up for getting the call if someone sees this thing out during the day?
