A Fairfax Neighborhood Watch would be a great idea! I would definitely support that and assist any way I could.

We had service yesterday. It was spotty on Sunday and most of Monday as well. Not sure about today. Will be sure to call them if out again - if it's before possible August 2nd strike.

Also curious as to how much the new pizza place affected the sales at the Country Pantry. Although this may not have been the main reason for closing it could certainly have added to their financial problems.

FFWLL (Fairfax Fletcher Westford Little League) baseball season starts in April and ends in mid-June. So, yes for this year it is too late to sign up.

They also have flowers that you can purchase. Typically, yes they do take preorders. However, there is also a table in which you can purchase them as well.

So if the original owner ends up paying the back taxes within the year what happens to the new owners? Do they get their $$ back?

Current News & Events / Re: School Budget Voted Down By 1 Vote« on: April 14, 2014, 07:04:07 AM »
I've seen a lot of comments indicating we should cut the iPads. Although I agree that they should not be utilized as the main form of instruction, I also believe they should not be cut. From a learning aspect they are a great tool (yes, tool. not to replace instruction from teachers). The basics should still be taught first - reading, writing, math. Additionally, I suspect if you break down from a budget aspect you will see that it doesn't really save our taxpayers a lot (if any) $$ in the long run. Without the iPads the school would have to go back to purchasing text books (sometimes updating them on annual basis), as well as paper, workbooks, etc.
It seems like the passing of our school budget is contingent upon renogiating the teachers contracts. I realize that would not be easy or maybe not even possible. However, just wondering has that option even been considered? 25

I too am a federal employee and have just had first pay increase of 1% in 3 years. Did I like not having a pay increase? Absolutely not! However, in knowing how the economy has affected everybody and realizing I could be without any job it was a sacrifice I was willing to make. I understood the need for no pay increase. I didn't like it, but I dealt with it knowing that that $$ would be used elsewhere. I would think that be freezing teachers salaries they too would have the same feelings - they wouldn't like it but would understand it's either their paychecks or the students education. Just my 2 cents.

Larry Young does our driveway/road in the village. He does a great job at a reasonable price.

General Discussion / Re: own a bus or purchase a contract?« on: October 16, 2013, 12:26:02 PM »
It might also be beneficial to obtain the perspective of towns that previously owned their own buses but now contract out. Did they see significant savings? Was the safety of students compromised? How has this worked for them? I believe that Fairfield used to own their own fleet but now contracts out. I'm sure there are others as well.
