Regardless of the circumstances behind the owner's decision to sell and how it was done the fact is that if you want to go out to eat in Fairfax right now there is no place to do so.  The Country Pantry has been a convenient way for locals to enjoy a meal without driving to St. Albans or Burlington and at a reasonable price.  I hope that the new owners are able to get things up and running quickly and that they are able to provide Fairfax with a restaurant that we need & want.

Does anybody know who the new owner is?

I also agree w/Claire & Kevin on this one.  In fact doesn't Fairfax have one of the lowest cost per pupil in Franklin County?  For that we should be grateful.

In another post on here this morning I saw information regarding full day kindergarten.  As noted in prior posts I too support this initiative.  I think that by investing in children's education early on you are in the end saving the town $$.  In fact doesn't part of Governor Douglas' letter regarding cutting back on budgets this year mention something regarding investing $$ in early education?  I beleive I read this on this forum somewhere earlier this year.  Even given all of this if the school board felt that it was necessary to not invest the extra $$ into kindergarten this year I support them.  I do however hope that in future years they readdress this issue.

It sounds like it's almost easier to just get a passport.

Good to have the heads up that they're calling again.  I usually get one of their calls as well.  I will ask them if they want to donate to Fairfax Fire Department and see what they say!

Does anybody know the area of coverage in Fairfax for Comcast?  I currently have DSL & phone thru Fairpoint.  Just wondering if would be eligible to switch to Comcast if that were a more cost effective package.

As I've made my opinion known throughout the many posts I will keep this short.  I agree w/7F24 and ChelseaClarke.  Yes, education does start at home and should be the foundation for their overall learning process in life.  However, most of us are not trained as educators.  Teachers and staff at the school are.  I sit with my children and read with them and help with homework every night.  It does not make me a bad parent as some have previously indicated) to want more for my child.  Yes, we are facing hard times financially right now and if we have to put off full day kindergarten until it gets better than I can live with that.  However, I think that as a community we need to look at ways of getting it into future budgets.

I myself thought of running for school board this year.  However, it is a hard job and very time consuming.  Time I'm not willing to sacrifice away from my children.  They do an outstanding job and do not receive enough praise.  Thank-you for your hard work and time.

Loctavious - Yes, I know!  If I have reservations about doing this and it's not even wrong for me to do so how can somebody who isn't even from our town feel that it's ok to drop theirs off.  I guess I'm just too honest and can't understand the mind set of those who are not!

I have Wednesday garbage pickup and have been tempted in the past when missing getting the trash out to the curb to bring it to a friend's who has Thursday pickup.  I couldn't bring myself to do that though cause it just didn't seem right.

The St. Albans Messenger had a great article on Friday regarding full day kindergarten in Fairfax.  Bottom line:  The kindergarten curriculum is changing and hence the need for full day.

"here we go ,the children are going to suffer ,hold the children hostage, you cant put a price tag on a quality education,,blah blah blah cut the budget period everyone else is why should the school be any different?"

Because if you start cutting back on our children's education now you will in the long run create more expenses.  Depending on the program(s) being cut you may in fact face children having to repeat grades in school and hence having an additional year of expenses for those children.  Yes, there are places to cut back that would in fact not affect their overall education - field trips, sport programs, music, art, etc.

I am a supporter of full day kindergarten as has been noted in previous posts.  I think that the school board did a great job in weighing the pros & cons of this additional expense.  This is one of those programs that I believe builds a solid foundation for our children for the future.  Teach them the basics now so that they can succeed in the future.  Yes, everybody is facing hard times financially right now.   And we can and should look at ways of cutting back.  But not implementing full day kindergarten is not one of those ways.

About $11K for in state residence and $27K for out of state residence.  And that's only tuition.  Doesn't include room & board, books, etc.

And without these volunteers what would our community do?  I would like to commend each and every one of you for volunteering your time and services.

We also need to remember that the families of these "heroes" make a large sacrifice as well.  Their spouses are the ones holding down the fort on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day when their loved ones are fighting fires.  They're the ones trying to explain to their crying children why Mommy or Daddy can't play with them or kiss them good night because they have a "call".

Thank-you!

I remember hearing stories about the ghost of a woman roaming the shores of Fairfield Pond.  I don't remember the exact story behind it but just the fact that many claim to have seen her.
