CJB

Who said anything about sending them to school to be fixed?  I agree that the parents are responsible for providing them with "social and educational opportunities outside of the home".   That is why I support GOOD schools, and am willing to pay my share of the cost of that education.

Mummy, it's obvious "successful" is good enough for you, but it's not for me.  I believe this country needs people that can think.  I agree that the home is where education begins, but limiting your children's education to what you know is not my idea of an education.

Schools should be important to everyone, not just people with children.  We have problems in this country that need to be fixed, like the economy, fuel sources, wars, social security, the list could go on for awhile.  The only real answer is education.  We need smart, well educated people, now more than ever.  I believe you get what you pay for.  The cost of educating the children of our community is something I am more than willing to pay my share of.
Remember, it's cheaper to educate than it is to incarcerate.

I also would like to thank all the people that have served on the school board over the years. These people pay taxes, they make decisions based on what they think is best for our school, they give up time with their families, people get mad at them, and it costs them more money.  That is one job I couldn't/wouldn't do.

I went to see Steve this morning, he looked good and acted like himself.   I told him about these posts and asked if he minded if I used his name.  He got a good laugh out of that and told me to tell everyone he should be home tomorrow, feeling pretty good, just missing a toe.

I was there on Friday, picked up a couple of half gallons of ice cream........for the kids.  I hope they rebuild soon.
186  Fairfax News / Current News & Events / Re: Vehicle Fire Reported On Butler Road Around 8 a.m. Today on: December 19, 2008, 12:22:25 PM
It was a van parked close to the condo's that burned, no damage to the building.  Our best pump operator came out of his house to respond, and found he had 2 slashed tires on his car.  We were lucky we had enough people respond to handle the call.  I hope we find out who it was that caused the vandalism, we cannot tolerate this kind of behavior.

I don't understand what health hazard you are "WORRIED" about.  Do you think the milk will make you sick if the alien milking the cows can't get his broken arm fixed?  Have you ever seen a banana farm in the US?  If you eat vegetables, there's a good chance they were not grown here.  There is no health hazard.  If you want to worry, worry about why the rest of the world hates us, worry about the economy, worry about getting our service people out of this war, worry about global warming, but don't worry about some poor Mexican that is willing to work long days for a little money to try to make life better for his family.

1)possibility of recruitment(down the road) for fire/rescue team. They'll be in the building, seeing what the Dept. does might put the spark of being a firefighter or EMT into someone who might have never thought of it before.

This was my first comment too. We welcome possible members or cadets, we are at the station every Tuesday, and we love having visitors.  As for being in the building- they would only be allowed in the meeting hall, which means locks would have to be installed on the doors that go into the garage and bunk room for safety and security.  I can imagine responding @ 2am to a call, no power in the station, trying to get through the new locks in the dark to get to the trucks.

2)double use of a building could save money and potentially increase the chances of getting money to expand/update the building in the future.

We've already doubled the use, with fire and rescue in the same building, and the seniors luncheons.

3)Will teach respect for others property as obviously strict rules and accountability will be needed so the teens don't damage or cause problems with the facility.

This is a good point too.  Why have they stopped using the day care?  I've heard rumors that the place was being left a little untidy, is this true?  Who will be responsible for cleaning the building?

4)Good PR for fire/rescue department

Is our PR bad?

My biggest concern is trying to respond to a call when the parking lot and road is full of parents dropping off or picking up 50 kids, while 20 fire and rescue people are trying to park and get their vehicles out.
I think we can find a better place for this, the school has the parking and I'm sure they can find room somewhere.  I liked Henry's idea, I'd love to see that building restored.

Are there any selectboard members on this forum that could explain why they think it's a good idea to use the fire station as a teen center?  I can think of a lot of good reasons why it should not be used, but I can't think of one why it should.

I believe we all own the road....including them. We should be praising their hard work, not of complaining about the extra 30 seconds it added to our drive.  Would you rather have them hanging around smoking like the idiots down by the covered bridge?

Tuesday night is our training night, so we were all at the station when we were called.  I think this was a win-win situation.  We practiced setting up pumps and running equipment, and we helped a member of our community.  I think Chief Potter made a good decision having us help Nan's.  Mike, if you ever have this problem at your home, feel free to call me for help.  If I am available I will be there as quick as I can to help you.

"use enough dynamite there Butch?"

Kind of reminded me of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when  I saw that cloud of dust go up.  We had to hold airplanes until the city checked to make sure the runway was clean.

• Burdensome government regulation leads to cost escalation and market destablization.

Lack of regulation can lead to market destablization too.........
