I am posting this here to reach readers who may run or walk on River Road in Fairfax. This has nothing to do with a crime but is a warning that there has been a very large black bear spotted last evening around 5:30 pm and again this morning at 7:30 on River Road. First spotted in the road near the sharp curve at the fishing turn off and this morning going up the Fairfax Salvage/Auto driveway. Please be cautious.

There is a dead animal in front of the entrance to Fairfax Auto and I don't know who to call to have it removed.

Wednesday evening we heard three loud snapping sounds in our house and could not figure out what it was after investigating for a while. Today I noticed that two of our front windows have holes from bb's. We are reporting this to the police today. Has anyone else had recent problems?

Our 3 year old granddaughter Violet will be visiting from California in a few weeks and has requested that she go see a beaver in a beaver pond. Does anyone know of an active beaver pond locally around Fairfax. I bet you don't get this request often, LOL.

We normally make apple cider from the two apple trees in front of our house, we think they are Macintosh. Due to equipment problems and time constraints we are not making any this year. This means we have two huge apple trees full of ripe apples free for the taking. We do not spray so they aren't like you find in a sprayed orchard.
Bring your own container! Due to liability issues, no climbing or ladders allowed. We are located at 234 River Road, right next door to Fairfax Auto in the tan house with green shutters. Our number is on the mailbox out front. You do not need an appointment but if you have any questions call 849-6561 Mark or Judi

TRIBUTE TO A BEST FRIEND
Sunlight streams through window pane onto a spot on the floor..... then I remember, it's where you used to lie, but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound..... then I remember, it's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill, then I remember, it can't be yours..... your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall, and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memories in a blanket of my love, and keep them for my best friend until we meet above. It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our best friend and loyal companion Cooper on August 7, 2013.

On my way to Steeples this evening I saw a mother Mallard and 6-8 ducklings standing at the intersection of River & Fletcher roads. She very promptly did a 360 when she saw my car slowly passing by and each of her babies did a 360 all in row. It was a cute sight to see but I fear for their safety. I don't know if they are nesting in Mill brook or down at the river.
