Scott was an active volunteer of the ABA Shriners and Masons. He loved participating in the many events with his fellow riders. The Shriners were not only his riding “brothers”, they truly became a part of his family. Scott was also a member of other groups including the Combat Vets and Lake Stockton Shriners.

Scott was an amazing man, who will be missed by so many. He is preceded in death by his father, Bernard “Ben” Achilles, and step-father Robert “Bob” Boutin.

He is survived by; his wife of 22 years, Chandra Mobus; daughter, McKenna; mother, Donna Boutin; sister, Angela Rodgers; brother, Robert Boutin; step-mother, Claire Achilles; step-sister, Janet Barbrie; half-siblings, Kathleen Achilles, Pete Achilles, Nicole Frye, Dawn White, and Corey Mobus; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many Shriner friends, and Military family.

Current News & Events / BFA Graduate Scott Mobus dies at 46
« on: July 24, 2015, 08:20:55 AM »
We lost one of the good ones.... He was a friend, and brother to us all.  The good ones are always taken away from us too early.  Rest in peace Scott Mobus, you'll be in our memories.

When an obituary is available I'll post that here

Taken from the Alabama KY3 News

"A motorcyclist from Bolivar was killed in a crash involving a pickup truck on Thursday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Scott Mobus, 46, struck a 2001 Chevy S10 pickup on Route H in Pleasant Hope at about 6:20 p.m. when the truck traveled into the path of his 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle.

Troopers say Mobus died at the scene. Nobody else was injured."

Free 1915 Kohler and Cambell Piano.

The piano was owned by BFA, Fairfax and had been tuned and repaired on a regular basis. The instrument is in good condition, keys and pedals work as they should. If only this 100 year old piano could talk, the stories it could tell! We are inheriting a family piano and now would like to pass this one on to another family.

1) Piano is a 1915 Kohler and Campbell serial number 176908
2) The keys are all in good condition.
3) Piano was owned by BFA, Fairfax so it was tuned and repaired on a regular basis.
4) Moving the instrument is a straight shot out onto a porch to a truck or trailer.
5) Dimensions: 59” long, 54” high, 30” deep

Our replacement is arriving June 10th, ideally we would like to move this before then.

Today a respected member of our Fairfax, Vermont community visited me at my place of business to inform me that Peter King is resigning his seat on the Fairfax Selectboard. He asked if I would be interested in filling the remainder of Peters term. I am honored that this person would ask me and feel that it is one of the highest complements that can be given.

At this moment the responsibilities to my family and business consume all of my time leaving me with little extra for myself. It is my hope that there are other candidates who would be willing to fill Peter's seat and provide a valuable service leading our town.

Peter's resignation has not been confirmed by me.  I am posting this notice so that if there are individuals who are interested in filling the position that they step forward.

The board filled the seat vacated by Chris Santee with a letter of interest from Lauri Bellows Fisher.   If any of you are interested, mail a letter to the Selectboard expressing an interest to serve on the board:

Current News & Events / Road Foreman, says take it easy on the road.
« on: November 26, 2014, 03:09:06 PM »
I just spoke with DJ Leach, the Fairfax Road Foreman, he's asking folks to be careful as they are out traveling on the roads. He and Pat will do the best that they can to keep up with the weather, but at this point his department is down one full time employee. The select board has not been able to hire a third person to date. Remember, drive responsibly this winter and if the trip is not necessary please stay home if possible.

They say, It takes a community to grow a child, but it takes dedicated volunteers like Tom Fontaine to provide the environment for the growing to happen.  A big thanks to Tom and his family.

Current News & Events / Trash Savings Estimate 2014
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:26:34 PM »
Nick Hibbard asked me to summarize the potential cost savings of accepting the new trash hauler contract.  These are estimates since Casella would not provide actual monthly tonnage figures to Fairfax for trash or recycling.

Here are the simplified details of the contract we had with Casella:

1) Per month flat fee per parcel of land whether there was a house on it or not $20.69 times 1676 = $34,676.44 per month
( This fee included the cost for landfill and recycling )

Casella Total yearly cost: $416,117.28

Fairfax was not given a monthly tonnage breakdown of recycling and trash from Casella for 2012-2013 so we have no way to know what our actual disposal fees are.  Casella's representatives stated that Fairfax Disposes 2000 tons of trash per year ( We are unclear if this includes recycling.), the figures for recycling are unknown as they were not reported to us.

Here are the simplified details of the Duffy's Contract:

1) Per month Flat fee per Household ( not parcel ) of $11.00 per month times 1584 = $17,424.00 per month
2) Monthly disposal cost of trash based on 2000 tons per year / 12 = 166.66 times $71.58 per ton = $11,929.52 per month
3) Recycling numbers were not provided by Casella so I do not have this figure to provide estimates

Based on what we know, estimated cost with Duffy's will be: $29,353.52 per month
Recycling is not included in this number but we will have figures at the end of January to use for estimating purposes to project the rest of the year.

Total yearly labor cost paid to Duffy's:          $209,080.00
Estimated disposal cost based on 2000 tons: $143,160.00
Recycling: Estimate 1000 tons * 10 per tons:  $10,000.00

Duffy's total Yearly estimated Cost:               $362,240.00

Yearly Estimated Savings:

Casella Yearly:       $416,117.28
Duffy's Estimated:  $362,240.00
Difference:               $53,877.28
Less Cost Casella Charged for the recycling bins: $13,001.00

Total estimated first year savings:      $40,876.28

Total estimated second year savings: $53,877.28

Estimated two year savings:                           $94,753.56

This first year savings of  $40,876.28 amounts to approx: 3.4% of the 2013 municipal budget.  Our municipal budget increase for 2013 was over 4% in order to control tax increases cost savings measures are necessary.

I can keep you up to date on savings as the numbers roll in.

Copies of both contracts are available at the Fairfax Town Office for those that would like to see them.

The Fairfax Brownies have collected a huge amount of gently used children's books and clothing. They are looking to donate them to an individual or a group in the Fairfax that could use them. This could be a daycare, faith based organization, or family in need. Please contact me directly if interested.

Current News & Events / Ms. Vermont Was in Fairfax tonight!
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:52:47 PM »
A big thank you goes out to all of the parents who brought their daughters to the Girl Scout Information Meeting.  We were very lucky to have a some of the older girl scouts from town come to support the younger girls.  A very special guest Ms. Vermont came to speak with the group about her experience as a girl scout & how it has shaped her life.  Here is the excited group of new girl scouts with Ms. Vermont.

In the foreground of this photo Ms. Vermont is answering questions.  Here she tells them that even as a senior at UVM she is still active as a volunteer Girl Scout.  In the background the parents are listening the the Coordinator from the council give important parent information.

The younger kids were in awe of their guest.

Here some of the younger children are taking part in a craft.  Overall the response from the Fairfax / Fletcher community was overwhelming.  If there are families who could not make the meeting last night, do not worry.  There will be open enrollment and I will post the links for that as soon as I can.

A big thanks to Henry for posting these photo's for me.
