Current News & Events / Re: Tim's Place II For Sale

That didn't take long....

The place seems to do pretty decent business most nights based on the cars in the log, why are they giving up so quickly?

If the concern is that subs can't work more than 30 hours in a week without having to pay healthcare costs, how would shifting the subs to Kelly save anything if subs have to work the same hours regardless of how they're hired?

Or is the idea that the district moves its "dirty work" to someone else?  Is Kelly planning on paying healthcare costs, or will they just "manage" subs to keep everyone at 29.5 hours?

General Discussion / Re: Eye Center in Plattsburgh

I can't speak for the retinal specialists, but in general I've found its a lot easier to drive a few hours to go to Dartmouth-Hitchcock.  I got an appointment with a specialist there in a matter of a week instead of the many-months long wait at Fletcher Allen.

Should we be expecting power brownouts while the work is happening?

Very funny!  It reminds me of the old Hoovervilles.

By my count this will be the 7th owner in 7 years.  Here's hoping they can pull it off!

Very useful resource, thank you to all who volunteer their time keeping us informed!

It looks like the Filberti station is down :(

One other local weather website I find helpful is at westfordweather.net

Current News & Events / Re: Accident on 128

I drove by the accident before the emergency responders had arrived, maybe 10 minutes earlier.  There was a lot of debris on the road, and looked to be a number of cars involved (or maybe pulled over to help).  It was just south of Rovers North on the east side of the road.

A Chinese food option would be amazing, and maybe we can get the crew at Nan's to start serving some authentic Indian food.

Current News & Events / West Nile infected mosquitos found in Fairfax
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:34:25 PM »
I saw on WPTZ's site that mosquitos tested positive for West Nile in town: http://www.wptz.com/news/vermont-new-york/burlington/eee-west-nile-found-in-more-vermont-towns/-/8869880/21535696/-/12e2y50z/-/index.html

Does anyone have any more details about where exactly they were found?

The ducky race was cancelled due to lightning.  I think it was rescheduled to August 18th with the 250th celebration.

Seems like that Scoutalarm isn't shipping for another 4-5 months.

I took a look at the video security system options at Costco and Lowes and decided that for now a regular alarm system makes more sense for my situation.  I ended up buying and installing a system from SimpliSafe.com, which looks pretty similar to what Scoutalarm is promising (call center monitoring, do it yourself wireless installation, motion/window/door detectors, etc) but for a LOT cheaper than what ADT was selling.   So far I'm pretty happy with it, although there's no camera option (yet) and its cellular coverage is a little weak in our area.

That said, I'd still like to see some suggestions for simple outdoor wireless camera systems that can send the recordings out to the Internet to be able to identify and catch these criminals red-handed.

Current News & Events / Re: Two Break-Ins On Cherrierville Road
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:30:11 AM »
I don't know if they're related, but I got a vague description of a dark truck with possibly a back rack or wood rack cruising slowly down private roads where they had no business going.  There might be multiple people involved.  It also looks like these guys are pulling the old trick where they knock on the front door "looking for a lost dog", and then kick down or shoulder open the door when nobody answers.  I've also heard of similar break-ins in Cambridge and Jeff.  They seem to strike in the daylight after 7:30am.

If you have anyone knock on the door with a similar story, please try to get their license plates, and report it to the State Police in addition to the Franklin County Sheriff...I don't know how much information the two departments are sharing.
