Title: Westford Selectboard Shelves Noise Ordinance

Concerns over road safety have stalled a proposed noise ordinance designed to shush truck noise in Westford village center.

A dozen or so town residents -- half of them truckers -- weighed in at a Thursday public hearing. Thirty minutes later, the Selectboard decided to seek improved signs as a way to reduce the racket of engine brakes on Vermont 128 in the town center district.

The proposed ordinance would have outlawed the use of engine compression brakes, also known as "Jake brakes" through town, and imposed fines of up to $500.
