Title: New Scam Alert
Post by: ohhman on July 12, 2013, 02:21:45 PM
Just got a call from someone calling to arrange a time for drop off of the medical equipment that was ordered by me or family member;  they need #s, times, the whole thing... guy pretty pushy.  California #209-676-3148.  Have heard he actually calls people back.  My only regret is I didn't put the phone near the screaming little one he woke up!

Was this John in shipping??  That is who keeps calling me and I keep hanging up on.

I already have one of those alerts and it is free, but it costs you $325 a year to use.  I got it right after Maryann fell in the shower and I wasn't home.  I still have it, unfortunately when I fell on the black ice outside last November 27th, forgot to use it.  Took me about a half hour to finally get in the house.  Oh and I had a cell phone too.  I did receive considerable coaching from my family, should this ever happen again.  The alarm button on my medical alert is supposed to work 800 feet from the house.  I wear it all the time on a cord around my neck.  Have accidentally hit it a few times and someone comes on and asks me "Henry, are you ok?"  I have to sheepishly reply I hit it by accident.  If I don't answer they call my youngest daughter  and Fairfax Rescue.

Yes, we had same message 2 x on answering machine.  States that we already paid for our medical alert system and they want to arrange shipping of it.  They provide call back #.  We did not call back as it was clearly a scam.

I can tell you if this call keeps coming through, well let's just say it is testing my patience!! Twice more I have received it, both at quiet times;  I have a whole new thought on the old slogan for a phone company  of "reach out & touch someone" !!

They have called several times a day for over a week, it really does try your patience!

Answer the phone "State Police. This is Sgt so and so. How may I help you?"

You would be surprised how quiet the other end of the line is :)

Doesn't work on this as it is a recording made very realistic.  I just don't get how they get by the wonderful "DO NOT CALL REGISTRY"  !!

This is the same one I mentioned on another thread.  When it starts, it does sound realistic, but I knew about if from getting the same calls at my office.  I've had the call here at least 7 or 8 times.  And Karen, when did you register your number on the DNC list?  It is only good for three years.  It is not a permanent list.

I've also gotten this call several times.  Yes, it's a recording.  Done pretty well, it appears like a live person at first.  I've got a referee's whistle ready, thinking about buying one of those compressed air horns.  Next time I'll "press 1" or whatever and wait until I get a live person, then use the loudest device available to give them some "feedback".

Now they are calling from a Vermont #802-448-2703 as well as the California #209-676-3148. I filled out a complaint form with the State Attorney Generals office on-line. I don't know if they can do anything but I advised it was town wide and we were all getting very annoyed at the repeated calls through out the day.

Attorney General's office called back about my complaint. They said the no call line won't do any good because they are scammers, not a legitimate business. There is NOTHING that can be done other than not answer and hope they go away.
