Title: MLK Memorial
Post by: nhibbard on December 12, 2012, 11:04:40 AM
While I agree he was a great man, stood for great things and is well worthy of a memorial, I do not believe a paraphrased quote needs to be removed at such a great cost.

I can barely see where the paraphrasing did not embody his ideals and the actual quote. Was there no vetting prior to putting the quote on there? This is a colossal waste of funds as we have more places that funds are need. I'm sure Dr King would agree.

The "great cost" and "colossal waste" works out to about one-quarter of a penny per US citizen.

Per person is not how to view it. To change a few words, hundreds of families could be helped. Viewing it per person diminishes the waste of resources to fix a mistake that was neither a great error or made any less of a great man. This could have also been fixed when millions weren't fighting for jobs and healthcare.
