FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
CASE# 12A302822

DATE/TIME: 07/01/2012  0315 hours
LOCATION: US Route 2, Marshfield
OPERATOR #1: Nelson Abbott                    AGE: 63     SEAT BELT?   NO
ADDRESS: 398 Danville Hill Road, Cabot, VT
DESCRIPTION OF VEHICLE: 2004 silver Chevy Tahoe
DAMAGE TO VEHICLE: Totaled

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENED:
On the above date and time operator #1 was traveling West on U.S. Route 2 in the town of Marshfield. Near the intersection with Star Pudding Farm Road vehicle #1 failed to negotiate a right curve.  Vehicle #1 subsequently traveled across the east lane and went off the roadway.   After leaving the road vehicle #1 struck a utility pole and rolled.  Operator #1 was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.
U.S. Route 2 remains closed at this time as utility crews repair the power/cable/phone lines.
Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the Vermont State Police.

The road is now open near the Twinfield High School.
