Title: New computer for the wife
Post by: Mike Raburn on August 07, 2011, 03:14:19 AM
I want to get rid of cable tv as much as possible.

I built the wife a new computer to hook into our network and the HDTV on the "main floor".

I ran tests and tried to max it out over the wireless network and I couldn't.

I tested Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, HGTV, HSN, QVC,,,,,,etc etc
They all worked flawless.

I popped in on the HDTV on the "main floor" and she was perturbed.

She didn't like the looks of the computer..........................................................
It was gawdy... and tacky looking.

Women, you can not live without them, nor convince a jury of your piers, you were justified.

Anyone want a new computer?

Manure.

How about a Samsung Series 5 Chromebook for the wife?

I'd love to get my hands on one of these!

Chromebooks seem to be all CLOUD BASED.

I think they are more for business travelers that need to hit work from airport waiting areas.

If all you do is e-mail, docs for work that are web based via google docs, and surf, then ya....it's a handy tool.

I too would like to stress test it but there is no HDMI out and the video cards are not HD.

So it's not a "media pc". Heck, it is a tablet with no touch screen. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

I am a google maniac!

I wasn't clear about the media center requirement.

I figured the Chromebook would meet the "doesn't look tacky" requirement. Plus it boots in 3 seconds, never requires a backup since all of the data is in the cloud and the battery lasts forever, so it is "easy".

Good luck in your task to build a non-tacky media center beast of a laptop.
