Metal. Top flips up. The bottom has a jagged ridge. What is it?

used to srape the fuzzy from the refrigerator expirments
to scrape ice for sno cones
for obtain zest from oranges,lemons for cooking

Definitely used to scrape something, with the scrapings collecting in the compartment.  How big is this item?

The bucket is three(?) inches in diameter and about 2 inches or less deep.

It's a vintage ice shaver, for snow cones.

It's an ice shaver! We found it was made in the late 1800's. They actually had sno-cones back then.

What would they pour on snow cones then?  Syrup? Fruit juice?
