Hi All,
If you check under upcoming events you will see where Mike Cain put a note regarding a Fairfax Historical Society Meeting next Sunday where we will be discussing the changes in Fairfax since our last History Book was put out. The public is free to attend and help with input. I was thinking about what Fairfax was like back then and came up with a few things:
In the late 1970s St. Luke's Parishioners attend services where the Steeple Market is today. Frank & Betsy Berardinelli purchased the church in March 1981 and opened their store in August 1981
In the late 1970s - Fairfax Commons??? What Fairfax Commons
A couple of Fairfax Housing Developments were Fairfax Heights and Windtop - I think Ken & Edith Ballard had sold a few lots up on the Buck Hollow Road
Fairfax Fire Department - Wasn't that where The Fairfax Historical Society is now??
The Town Garage - Was that on School Street??
Did we have a Sewerage Plant in the late 1970s, or was it going down into Mill Brook??
Was that Milton Bradley up where Morse Lumber is??

In 1977, the last place behind the school was Orcutts down in the woods across from where Randy Devine lives now.
In fact, just beyond where Chris Santee lives now(Bernie Keefe's old house), was NOTHING. Repeat-NOTHING. Just hayfields.
No houses, no senior housing, no sewer plant, NOTHING.

New School Required to Accomodate All Students at BFA - Fairfax
March - 1971
After the fire of 1941, a new BFA was built and was able to accomodate all of the students for 30 years. In 1971, Fairfax voters passed a bond issue calling for a new school that could, once again, accomodate all its students. By the fall of 1973 it was ready for occupancy.
Not sure how many additions we have had in the next 30 years, but there have been a few.

BFA-Fairfax is currently four different buildings, constructed six ways.
1. The original BFA built in 1903, opened in 1904.
2. The re-built BFA, after the 1941 fire.
3. The 1960 wing out the back door of the gymnasium, which housed six classrooms, two bathrooms, janitor's closet, and faculty room.
4. The 1973 wing, extended off the 1960 wing.
5. The 1989 Middle School, renovated out of and added onto the 1960 wing. The only thing unchanged from the old 1960 wing, is a closet in the library office.
6. The 1998 Elementary end.

Wow I have not been down by the school for a number of years, took a look on google earth, and saw how far the housing goes down past the Orcutts I remember running through those woods for Cross Country practice, and meets. seems like a long time ago (although I guess it was 23 rears and counting.
