PRESS RELEASE
Troopers, Local Business Help Elderly Woman Without Heat

Trooper Lucas Hall, St. Albans Barracks, Vermont State Police, (802) 524-5993

Georgia, VT - 12/16/13 - On December 16, 2013, at approximately 11:59AM, troopers from the St. Albans Barracks responded to a 911 hang up in Georgia, VT. Upon arrival, troopers discovered an elderly woman, age 86, within the residence. At the time of arrival, the temperature outside was in the low teens.

The woman was located in the living room, and was dressed in heavy winter attire. Troopers observed that the home was frigid, and the resident was trying to find blankets to keep her and her small K9 companion warm. Troopers quickly discovered that the heating fuel tank was completely empty. To try to warm up the woman's home, troopers retrieved bags of pellets from the woman's garage and started a fire. Troopers and St. Albans dispatchers also contacted Joyal Fuel Company of Fairfax, VT.

Not knowing whether or not the woman had an account with their company, Joyal Fuel employees responded to the residence immediately, and filled the woman's tank with 100 gallons of fuel oil. Joyal Fuel employees advised that they wanted to help the elderly woman in any way that they could.

Troopers then left the residence after the woman's fuel tank was filled and the residence had warmed. The resident did not require medical attention. And troopers with the St. Albans Barracks are contacting additional state agencies to ensure the elderly resident is receiving necessary assistance.

The Vermont State Police encourage all Vermonters to check on their elderly neighbors, friends, and relatives to ensure they have the necessary provisions during extreme winter weather conditions. If you are concerned for someone's welfare, please call your local law

What a sad yet beautiful story  I am glad she had the presence of mind to call 911, and how wonderful that Joyal employees/business so eagerly reached out to help her.
