Title: BFA JV Girls vs Enosburg - the Rematch - 1-6-9 @6:00
Post by: Loctavious on January 05, 2009, 08:52:37 AM
Last season, the JV girls of BFA had a rough start to their season.  Injuries, youth, and focus were issues for BFA until about game 6 of the year when the team started to gell as a unit.  The first half of the season last year, saw lost close games or potential blow-outs become battles.

Enosburg AWAY last season was an eye-opener for the JV girls.  They were subjected to a first half barrage that exploited their lack of focus and discipline on BOTH sides of the ball.  The second half HOWEVER, saw BFA's defense tighten up, and it's press start to inflict major chaos on Enosburg.  Though BFA lost this game, their second half poise spoke volumes of their potential.

The second meeting of the year saw a different BFA team from the get-go.  More poised, smarter, faster, more aggresive, and shooting 50% or better.  After slow start, BFA went up by 1 going into the half, 7 into the 4th, and won the game in the end.  BFA succeeded in causing havoc on defense and getting some great offense from the players.
Look for a good game on both sides tomorrow from both teams.  Highlights to come on wednesday in the Highlights Thread.

Found the JV to be an exciting game.  Looks as though you have many strong players on the JV team, don't really know who they are.  Although, I do recognize Ruby who was a joy to watch her expressions!  How did the Varsity team do?

I've coached many of the players on JV in one sport or another for years.  They're a great bunch of kids - respectful, courteous to a fault, and they've got tons of heart and grit.  That was just our first game against Enosburg too!  We won the second meeting last season so perhaps we'll mature enough to pull it off in their house!  Thanks for your support.  I've included a JV roster below.

Varsity game was a true battle for our girls; not in terms of closeness of score, but determination to keep playing their hardest against a far superior team in shooting.  Our girls were able to hold them to 1 basket for the first 5 minutes which is a testament to our players ability to maintain a feverishly-paced defensive barrage.  But in the long run, that pace wasn't sustainable for us. At the end of the half it was 31-6.  Our girls did come out a bit stronger on offense though in the second half and managed to hold Enosburg to 62 pts total - final score was 62-24.  Casey Baczewski pumped in 20 points.

JV Girls Roster

Evyn Banach - Freshman - Point Guard, Captain - #23
Ruby Bushey - Freshman - Guard, Point Guard - #12
Kaysie Unwin - Freshman - Point Guard, Guard -# 3
Danielle Sweet - Freshman - Guard, Forward - #5
Liz Stratton - Freshman - Guard, Forward - #25
Ashley Benard - Freshman - Guard - #14
Renata Flanigan - Sophomore - Foward, Captain - #15
Allie Minor - Freshman - Forward - #21
Lyndsey Wells - Freshman - Forward - #13
Hannah Gerke - Freshman - Forward - #20
Jordan Rock - Freshman - Guard, Forward - #22 - Also plays for JV2
