Amcare has been dispatched to upper Buck Hollow Road, so another ambulance should be going through town shortly

Anybody hear any more on the accident up in Fletcher - Sounded like one patient was in bad shape - Hopefully everyone is ok

DESCRIPTION OF VEHICLE:
2004 Chevrolet Aveo

DAMAGE TO VEHICLE:
Extensive contact damage to the entire front of the vehicle

INJURIES

Operator James Colburn of  Swanton, VT 35 years old.  Facial and head inures

Passenger Jane Doe (Age and address unknown) Head and leg trauma; listed in
critical condition at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington

SUMMARY OF CRASH:
The Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Fairfield Rd in

the Town of Fletcher on Saturday evening.  Rescue and fire personnel were able

remove the female passenger from the vehicle and transport her to Northwest

Medical Center.  The male operator, identified as 35 year old James Colburn, was

also transported to Northwest Medical for treatment in ST Albans.
 
The investigation revealed that the operator had been drinking and was processed

for Driving While Intoxicated while at the hospital.  Colburn refused a blood

test.  Trooper Hill obtained a search warrant and obtained an evidentiary

blood sample from Colburn later that night.

Both Colburn and the unidentified female passenger, were transported to the

Level I trauma unit at Fletcher Allen Hospital for treatment.

Upon Colburn's release from Fletcher Allen he will be detained and lodged for

Driving While Intoxicated - Accident resulting in Serious Bodily injury.

The female passenger is listed in critical condition at Fletcher Allen Hospital.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the State Police in ST Albans. 

The crash is still under investigation.

Our daughter .. Sara Lyn Matheson Lyngholm is still in very critical but stable condition.  Surgery was conducted on Sunday to replace a torn valve on her heart ... she has a punctured lung, broken ribs, a mutiple fractures to one of her legs.  She has been on ventilator & under heavy sedation since Sunday .... but is showing signs of improvement with each day.
 
Our grandson (Dylan- age 15) is with family here in Central Vermont.

This is a follow up press release

On October 4, 2011 the Vermont State Police arrested James W. Colburn of Swanton for Gross Negligent Operation of a vehicle- Accident with serious bodily injury and Driving While Intoxicated - Refusal following a serious bodily injury accident.  Colburn was operating a vehicle involved in a serious crash on Fairfield Road in Fletcher on Saturday evening.

The female passenger has been identified as Sara Lyngholm of Maine.  Lyngholm is still listed in critical condition at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.

Colburn will be arraigned on 10/4/11 in Franklin District Court
