Title: The Ice Cream Parlor - Then Chan Cooley's House In The 1960s
Post by: Henry on August 21, 2012, 07:32:41 PM
Went down Fletcher Road today and saw some smoke at 207 Fletcher Road and realized that Chan Cooley's Old House built in the 1960s had been demolished.  Interesting story about this house is that in the early years in the center of the village Gillette's Store stood on the corner of Fletcher Road and Main Street and can be seen behind the light pole and horse and buggy in the photo below and Chan Cooley, being a thrifty man took it upon himself to tear down the house and salvage the materials and build himself a house up on Fletcher Road, what was to become 207 Fletcher Road.  Behind that house you can see Guy Butler's house, which still stands there today and is owned by Ron & Bev Gates.  Where the house stood, the land is now used for a parking lot for the tenants that live in Ron & Bev Gates house.

I will try to complete this with a photo of the house that Chan Cooley built from the materials.

Someone went up to see the area and told me that one of the things that was not demolished was a "Cement Outhouse".  There were a couple of other things they left also.  That has got to be something unique.

Looks like Vermont Wood Structures has a sign at the end of the driveway that says - "Will Build To Suit"

Someone told me that they went up to watch the house being demolished and that on the property there was a brick outhouse and a child's playhouse - Sure enough - here they are:
